You should have dinner with us sometime. I agree completely.

An old mentor of mine used to say “Poop makes the world go 'round. You can be hungry and not eat, you can be horney and not screw, but if you gotta go, you gotta go!

The U.S. in a nutshell really.

“It was quite clear that there were a large percentage of passengers that were sick, but unless you self-reported, you were free to keep going and infect other passengers,” said Ted Vomacka of Antioch, who said he was among the passengers who tested positive on the ship and was forced to quarantine in separate quarters from from his wife, Larisa, who eventually tested positive after they returned home.

Vomacka and other passengers said they weren’t told about the outbreak as it was spreading on board, and there were no screening tests for the virus to identify other potentially infected passengers without symptoms.

“It was obvious from observing all the coughing and hacking that some form of infection was going around,” he said.

Can I double-check: are they saying 4 individual people, or 4 ‘peoples’ (groups of people)?

Obviously, no matter the total number protection is important, but I’m wondering about the scope here.

4 different groups of people. The article states that these people are in Central Brazil and in Brazilian Amazon rainforest region.

I read these news everyday and get very worried.

The levels of horror in that situation!

I have a monthly hiking group in Northwest Indiana/Southwest Michigan. One of the organizers is native to the area; her husband is a National Park ranger and only moved there relatively recently. We started talking about (what I consider to be) the mistakes made to support industrial production in the area at the expense of the natural flora and fauna, and most specifically the protection of the largest freshwater system in the world – steel, chemical, and other heavy industry right on the shores of Lake Michigan – and I discovered that they must have some very interesting conversations in their home, because she had swallowed the propaganda from her youth completely, that industry was vital to a community and must be given priority.

How to change the public perception about what is of utmost importance? Because if you don’t, you lose something (and someone) unique and precious, permanently.

A difficult question to answer. In fact, we humans are myopic, we can’t see very well what is lying in the future.

Reps. Steve Drazkowski, R-Mazeppa, and Tim Miller, R-Prinsburg, shared the fictional stories in support of Drazkowski’s proposal to give lawmakers control over a statewide student survey.

The anecdotes show, Miller said, how the Minnesota Student Survey’s questions about gender and sexuality encourage “moving to the absurd” in allowing students to explore their identities.

Unsubstantiated rumors about schools providing accommodations for students who believe they’re animals or identify as furries — a subculture of people who enjoy acting like and dressing up as animals — have spread across the country for months. The claims, all debunked, have been spurred on by social media posts, outraged parents and lawmakers in several states, often in connection with arguments that schools’ diversity and inclusion efforts have gone too far.

The Minnesota Student Survey has been given every three years since 1989. It’s the only source of statewide data on students’ health and safety, with questions on topics including nutrition, sexual behavior, after-school programming and substance use. Schools and the state use the data to track trends in student well-being and apply for grants.

Drazkowski took issue with questions like “What is your gender identity?,” saying he didn’t know what some of the options meant and couldn’t remember if there’s a “blue gender or a green gender.” He thanked education committee chair Rep. Jim Davnie, DFL-Minneapolis, for explaining to him the meaning of “cisgender” — which describes a person whose gender matches their sex assigned at birth — during a committee hearing.

“Apparently, members, it means you’re normal,” Drazkowski said. “It’s the way God designed you.”

funnily enough, all the options mean you’re normal!

I’m not normal, I’m tangential.

Normal is boring. Who the hell wants that? I am straight, cis, white, male and weird as all hell. And very proud of that. IMHO, if everyone would just embrace their weirdness, deal with the fact that this is what makes them, well, them, and just accept that everybody else is just as fucking weird, but in different ways, we would be in a much happier place. Cookie cutter, Stepford people are way far into the uncanny valley and clearly not humans. Not even very good simulacrums. Forward the weird!!

(Edit: Reading that, I think the proper plural is “simulacra,” but you know what? I ain’t fixin’ it. So there!)
