Stay safe and I definitely agree with this -
Thanks. Itâs an especially âfuck todayâ for us, as our three teens decided tonight to tell us how happy they are with Roe being overturned. Big argument, big family fight. Not nearly enough Laphroig in the house.
Wow. My thanks to her.
If the need arises for support for legal costs etc - let us mutants know.
It may be time for them to support themselves-and you donât need to worry about them.
Iâm not sure how that comment helps him right now.
Kids at that age have a way of being contrarian for the sake of being contrarian. I experimented with all kinds of bizarre political philosophies at that age (I was somehow pro nuclear war at some point; I donât even remember how that came up). In other words, I wouldnât worry about that too much. The values that matter become clear in oneâs twenties.
Because of course the national body in charge of funding disability support discriminates against disabled employees.
wow. all of that sounds really hard. maybe theyâre also sensitized by the rest of what you all are dealing with, and see that path as some sort of safety for them right now. at school or wherever
im not a parent, so i donât know what itâs like. i imagine the talking and the fighting is good - even if itâs also the worst. maybe thatâs what gets kids thinking: where did i learn that thing? why do i feel that way?
maybe those hard moments - with guidance - is what leads kids to empathy and perspective later
case in point: my family was religious and conservative. they never talked to me. about anything. if they had, maybe iâd be a gop darling. instead, iâm a left wing socialist leaning mutant. so let that be a lesson. parents: always talk to your kids or theyâll wind up a lefty. ( hmmm⌠i might have lost the moral on this one )
Maybe so. Itâs a tough discussion. One of those children wouldnât even have been conceived and born if we hadnât made the difficult choice with a previous pregnancy. So the entire conversation is painful in ways they cannot possibly get.
I appreciate the supportive comments. It was a rough night. But as the song goes, today is a new day. (At least, I think thereâs a song like that. If not there ought to be)
I think youâre thinking of âBlack Hole Sun.â
Just kidding!
Whatever one might think of the bandâs lead, âBeautiful Day,â is a helluva pick me up.
And sending some spiritual Laphroig through the internets.
this is awfulâŚ
I feel your/her pain. VA has not gone down that path yet, but the direction we are headed makes me very nervous. We are also having discussions about what to do in the event of. That sucks for you guys.
I would argue that now that theyâre teenagers, this is EXACTLY the sort of conversation they need to have with you.
I agree. But that part of the story is not mine to decide to tell.
Students of Doylestownâs Lenape Middle School protested outside the building on Tuesday, calling on the school to reinstate social studies teacher Andrew Burgess, according to Channel 9. Burgessâ sudden firing came on Friday, shortly after the eighth grade teacher reportedly gave a transgender student, who was being bullied, resources for support outside the district.
This is in PA. This is not TX or FL, this is PA. It needs a lot more publicity. He did not âpreachâ LGBTQ, he gave a kid being bullied a resource to seek help. This is a firing offense now?
Thatâs where we are in this country right now â fucking fascists everywhere. LGBTQ people are an easy target.
The order did not evaluate the law on its constitutionality but instead allows the law to go back into effect while the case proceeds in district court, according to a statement from one of the plaintiff groups. The ruling came from a three-judge panel on the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals â which is often considered the most conservative appeals court in the country â and was not accompanied by a written opinion explaining the decision at the time of publication.
