Generic 2016 US Election Cycle Recycling Bin

Hypothetical: Trump narrowly wins the election, but there is clear and well documented evidence of widespread interference at the polls by Trumpkin intimidation/violence and blatant voter suppression (eight hour queues, broken machines, police checking warrants outside the polls, etc) in Democratic areas across the red states.

What happens next?

The same thing that happened in 2001 after Bush: precisely dick.

I think it will be somewhere between the two. No matter who wins, there’s going to be massive drama, with all the typical wailing and gnashing of teeth. After a few weeks, hopefully, we’ll be back to business-as-usual, or as close to usual as we can get.

But I am so ready for it to be all over…

I think Silver is probably a good statistician. Where he falls down for me are his attempts at punditry. He’s rubbish at it.

I pull my shirt off and pray (don’t worry, I already voted so I won’t be escorted out of the polling place)

That’s interesting. The stories about Trump gaining ground tend to mention that likely turnout amongst young and AA voters is down, but here we see that it’s up in 3 of these 4 states.

Up for the early vote. Don’t expect an equal result in the election day turnout; the two electorates cannibalise each other to an extent, so the correlation is a mix of positive and negative.

We’re still yet to see how effective in-person voter suppression is going to be.

Why, did they finally figure out what it’s actually about?

Took someone to early voting this morning: the line was even longer that the other day, more in the realm of 3 hours just to get in the door (no idea how much longer once inside). They decided to try their luck on Tuesday.

I’m sure all the white suburban locations had plenty of working machines. Even in the city, there’s a website to check for things like fastest wait times and they’re almost 100% in white neighborhoods.

Tuesday is going to be very long.

I cannot fathom how voting here in WA can be all-postal weeks ahead of the date, and in other states, it requires hours-long queues. It’s fucking ridiculous, and, almost more than anything else, the GOP deserve to lose for voter suppression. Every party should want everyone to vote. Isn’t this meant to be the world’s greatest democracy? It’s shameful.

I realized my reply was a little hasty; the song’s true meaning should be right in their wheelhouse, or pretty close. But your links show why they got beef with the Boss now. Well, who needs Springsteen when you’ve got Ted Nugent

On the one hand, I wonder why America doesn’t go ahead with compulsory voting (here, you don’t turn up & get your name marked off, you get a fine. Even if you have some reason against voting, you can just draw a dick on your ballot & no one will care).

On the other hand, seeing as one of the major parties views voter suppression as a legitimate method to win an election, I don’t actually wonder why at all.
