Hypothetical: Trump narrowly wins the election, but there is clear and well documented evidence of widespread interference at the polls by Trumpkin intimidation/violence and blatant voter suppression (eight hour queues, broken machines, police checking warrants outside the polls, etc) in Democratic areas across the red states.
I think it will be somewhere between the two. No matter who wins, thereâs going to be massive drama, with all the typical wailing and gnashing of teeth. After a few weeks, hopefully, weâll be back to business-as-usual, or as close to usual as we can get.
Thatâs interesting. The stories about Trump gaining ground tend to mention that likely turnout amongst young and AA voters is down, but here we see that itâs up in 3 of these 4 states.
Up for the early vote. Donât expect an equal result in the election day turnout; the two electorates cannibalise each other to an extent, so the correlation is a mix of positive and negative.
Weâre still yet to see how effective in-person voter suppression is going to be.
Took someone to early voting this morning: the line was even longer that the other day, more in the realm of 3 hours just to get in the door (no idea how much longer once inside). They decided to try their luck on Tuesday.
Iâm sure all the white suburban locations had plenty of working machines. Even in the city, thereâs a website to check for things like fastest wait times and theyâre almost 100% in white neighborhoods.
I cannot fathom how voting here in WA can be all-postal weeks ahead of the date, and in other states, it requires hours-long queues. Itâs fucking ridiculous, and, almost more than anything else, the GOP deserve to lose for voter suppression. Every party should want everyone to vote. Isnât this meant to be the worldâs greatest democracy? Itâs shameful.
I realized my reply was a little hasty; the songâs true meaning should be right in their wheelhouse, or pretty close. But your links show why they got beef with the Boss now. Well, who needs Springsteen when youâve got Ted Nugent
On the one hand, I wonder why America doesnât go ahead with compulsory voting (here, you donât turn up & get your name marked off, you get a fine. Even if you have some reason against voting, you can just draw a dick on your ballot & no one will care).
On the other hand, seeing as one of the major parties views voter suppression as a legitimate method to win an election, I donât actually wonder why at all.
