I feel like Pence somehow thinks this is a good thing, but have no idea how anyone could ever think having no moral boundaries is a good thing.

I would not set my hopes in faithless electors, and it’d create a hideous mess if they did choose Clinton, but hey, we’re in an absolutely hideous mess already, so I signed.

Maybe we can have a do-over?

Trump still has almost 2 months to keep digging deeper, which might help sway faithless electors (I doubt it, though).

If a constitutional crisis is the best we can hope for…

I have no ā€œhopesā€ set on anything.

If there ever was a time a do-over would make sense, this is it. Well, also Brexit. In the US there should be a do-over provision for any case where the EC and popular vote have diff’t results.

We’ve been watching McCrory like a hawk through all this. He’s been trying everything in the book and a few things outside of the book.

Last week, a suit demanding a recount of Durham votes was denied by the Republican-controlled local board of elections. Over 100 local citizens (including myself, harumph) attended the preliminary hearing at 8am last Wednesday. I will say that the case his lawyer made sounded ā€˜far fetched’ shall we say and the counter testimony from the VP of the company that makes the voting machine software (ES&S LLC) was smooth and polished in explaining why the suit had no merit. The request was tossed out last Friday.

Rumor has it that he’s trying to pack the court before he’s voted out. The state constitution apparently allows this (IV.6.1), but still feels shady af. ā€œRumorā€ is how we got stuck with HB2.

The request for a recount is new potatoes. Local news says it’s a legal option when the margin is less than 10,000 votes and the request must be filed by a certain date - so this could be purely procedural. I’m not inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt in any of this.

Can we just start the impeachment hearing now?

I see Trump is using the Nixonian version of ā€œcan’tā€.

I laughed at this way harder than anyone should laugh at Ben Carson.

I can verify that my polling place in Detroit uses paper ballots and optical scanners, so it would be harder to hack with a paper trail in place. But I’d love to see any questionable results audited.
