Generic 2016 US Election Cycle Recycling Bin

What about an electoral overturn in favour of Kasich (since that seems to be what the self-described #hamiltonelectors seem to want)?

I have to say of all the motivators I respond to, threats of political violence is the one I refuse to consider. While the EC isnā€™t going to select anyone but Trump, were they to go a different way, we should all ā€œget over it,ā€ just like weā€™re accepting Trump getting fewer votes but still winning the election. Threats of political violence canā€™t be used as the basis for a political decision or we may as well have feudal warlords. If some morons decide to take up arms against their country over it, thatā€™s a foolish, unjust, immoral choice to make, but theyā€™ve signed their own death warrant over it.

Yeah, I mean, Trumpā€™s only claim to have legitimately ā€œwonā€ the election is the EC. He and his supporters would have no moral grounds to be upset if that EC then worked like Hamilton et al wanted it to. (Spoiler alert: Trump will get > 270 EC votes anyway. Iā€™ll be surprised if he doesnā€™t get 306, by the sounds of it the only people likely to be faithless are those that are ā€˜meantā€™ to be voting for Clinton so he may even get more).

And if they resorted to violence they would be utterly in the wrong (and rapidly lose anyway). Even the threat of violence is unacceptable. Thatā€™s not democracy. Hold a gun to my head, I donā€™t care what your argument is.

ETA: I really donā€™t like this idea of putting Kasich or similar up with Dem help anyway. Thereā€™s no argument that anyone except Trump or Clinton has any mandate. If they wonā€™t elect Clinton, let Trump do it, let him crash and burn and the GOP can own it. If the Dems put Kasich or Romney in the White House theyā€™d be culpable for it. Itā€™d be a disaster in future elections. The oncoming clusterfuck needs to be left entirely at the feet of the GOP to accept responsibility.

I think you seriously underestimate the level of laziness involved in being politically duped.

Theyā€™ll be mad, yell a bunch of racist and sexist drivel, threaten all sorts of violenceā€¦hey, wait, the new season of Celebrity Apprentice is on, and hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger?

I donā€™t consider Kasich much better than Pence, based on his record in Ohio. But I donā€™t think enough electors will switch to make a differenceā€¦ especially considering how many of the outspoken electors are bound for Clinton. Iā€™d rather see them throw it to her, but I doubt that will happen. If Trump fails to get enough electoral votes to clinch the Presidency, it will likely go to Congress, and Ryan. I think they will confirm Trump. So Iā€™m not sure if thereā€™s any hope in that direction, as much as it galls me to say so.

Eta: there would likely be some violence if the Electoral College overturned the election. Iā€™m not sure thatā€™s enough reason not to do soā€¦ but again I donā€™t think that will happen.

Did you see the Cubs owner (oh look, another billionaire) is going to be deputy commerce secretary?

Just keeps getting worse for White Sox fans.

At least the Green Party coffers will be well stocked.

Presidentless? It would certainly be an unprecedented situation.

Well, personally Iā€™d rather have Kasich than Clinton, since he is in reality only slightly worse, and isnā€™t carrying a crippling load of unearned baggage from twenty years of anti-Hillary propaganda. But I really have no guess what would happen in those circumstances. :helpless shrug:

I sincerely hope you are right, but I doubt it very much. Iā€™ve said that a lot in the past year. :second helpless shrug:

Yeah, weā€™d better not even talk about the electoral college, like, doing its actual job this year. Fascists might get upset with us. We all know what theyā€™re like when they get upset.

And youā€™re not representing the fascists in this discussion, youā€™re just pointing out consequences. Donā€™t make daddy mad, itā€™ll be our fault if he breaks the furniture again.

Trump. Ruins. Everything.

I guess Stein can look forward to being called the Nader of 2016 for the rest of her life now.

(although I wonder how many registered Dems in those states either voted for Trump or abstained?)

Like Nader, she did spend her entire campaign falsely equivocating party platforms that were not at all equivalent, while focusing 99% of the attacks on the Dem. But sheā€™s a bit worse than Nader since she was promoting dishonest conspiracy theories and rank bullshit to attack Clinton. At least Nader was fairly honest. As with 2000 there was a perfect storm of fucked up bullshit that got us in this mess, but the Greens again go in the column of things that significantly contributed to terrible harm by actively promoting ignorance.
