jeebus, @Ratel , that is awful. migratory birds are so incredibly important to multiple ecosystems globally! I know you know this already, but gottdammit! I’m so sick of this wanton destruction I want to explode.
there are bluejays that come to my front porch 2 - 3 times daily demanding, loudly (!) I come out and give them peanuts. I love them. One will even come and perch on the porch rail while I am placing the peanuts on the rail! then anxiously grab one and fly up to the gumbo limbo tree to crack them. today, a beautiful woodpecker came to the porch to inspect the oily sunflower seed hopper. migratory cardinals and hummers in the next months as winter comes up north.
point being, these beautiful creatures are such important indicators of the overall fitness of the environment (as we have known for, what? forever?)

We have seen a huge number of monarch-like butterflies here this summer, which was very very reassuring. But now that I think about it, none for a week or two.
