Don’t resign; stay in office but quit the Republican party. It’s not the party you signed up for anymore, anyway!
Stay in as an independent but vote for Hakeem Jefferies! Like, if I’m in the Democratic leadership, I’m promising them that we’re not going to do anything crazy - we just want to get shit done, some actual bipartisan things like funding the government and border control bill. Get a handful of 'em to vote in Jefferies and let’s see the House actually be able to function again.

This is what I don’t get. They could be king makers. They could get all kinds of things they want. Some GOP who remember the older GOP policies and doesn’t agree with MAGA could get all kinds of stuff. Barrels of pork for their district even. They don’t even need a promise by Dems to not go crazy, since they could just vote it all down. Without being speaker, this type of independent could wield all kinds of power. They could decide what gets done or not.

This is the worst part. Prevented from being the king maker and getting whatever they want on any legislation (within some reason) by the credible threat of violence.

Not through policy debate, differences in goals and implementation, but prevented from governing because of violence against them.

But they are also abdicating their responsibility to their constituents, who are also under threat of violence from the MAGA wing of the party. They are prioritizing their own welfare over those of the american public.
