Wait, what was it that Obi was drinking that time?

Not to worry, I’m assured that stopping clearly unqualified candidates is one of the key features of the electoral college system! Well, people used to assure me of that…

Is it, though? The judge may have the authority to determine a non-standard punishment (and sidestep existing rules that dictate what happens to prisoners when they’re convicted), but they don’t have the authority to build entirely new types of prisons, which seems like it would be a problem. It’s also an issue of money, but where’s the money coming from, who gets to determine how it’s spent, who staffs this prison, how is all this coordinated with the legal system (the outcome of the trial might be a jail sentence, but then do you say, “hold up a mo, we need to work out who is actually responsible for jailing him and have to find tens of millions of dollars to build a prison for this guy - it should be ready in a couple years”?

And if those (possibly secret) policies violate the constitution? Also, I think we could also find plenty of crimes for personal enrichment during the Bush administration that just got shrugged off, too. (Granted, a scattering of such crimes by different people, which becomes not just quantitatively but qualitatively different from the volume and seriousness of what Trump did by himself.)

Whereas failing to prosecute a former president for crimes would make it absolutely certain the US is no longer a democracy…

What are you talking about? That has nothing to do with the judge. If he’s convicted and sentenced to prison, it becomes the respective corrections agency that gets to figure that all out. And, frankly, this seems much ado about nothing. Just send him to prison and skip the secret service protection. He’s lost that priviledge.

THAT PART!

Monarchy is ‘above the law,’ democratically elected presidents are NOT.

when they didn’t take his mugshot in new york, the campaign invented one anyway

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/3933956-trump-campaign-fundraises-off-fake-mugshot/

Former President Trump’s campaign is fundraising off of a fake mugshot in an email blast to supporters on Tuesday shortly after he arrived at the Manhattan court for his arraignment.

Underneath the fake mugshot, text reads “Not Guilty.” The campaign is offering the shirts in exchange for a $47 contribution.

still… it will be nice know he’s forced to sit for one. his writhing hatred of the moment will warm my heart.

[ there’s a constant stream of stories about how he’s using these indictments for fundraising, only there’s never any mention if it’s small donor or millionaires; nor if it’s going to him or his pacs. inquiring minds want to know… ]

Not Funny GIF

Yet another person has died in Fulton custody (in the section of the Atlanta Detention center handed over to Fulton officials), so not really funny.

Can you imagine a national referendum?

Send Trump to prison, where he belongs?
  • Yes, of course
  • No, I hate America

Yeah, that’s what makes me crazy about the whole thing.

Well, exactly - my point is that may pose a problem for the judge in sentencing, if they don’t feel like there’s an existing place that’s appropriate for Trump to go, if he’s sentenced to prison. Lately I’m reading that there are prisons where Trump could appropriately be sent, for highly sensitive prisoners - I just don’t know if they exist on the state level in Georgia, and if that would create some sort of issue.
