I don’t wear a costume, but I do project scary movies on a rear-projector screen onto a large window in the front of the house. I’m tired of my current rotation, which includes a bunch of old Disney cartoons (skeletons dancing, that kind of thing), Mad Monster Party (which BTW was not easy to find!), and some random “haloween projection” videos I found on youtube.
Any suggestions for something different? Scary as they would be, I’m too lazy to make animated Trump heads. A couple of years ago BB featured an apartment art installation that had projected giant animated cockroach shadows on the windows; that would be cool, but I haven’t been able to track down either the BB article or the video they used.
I went to the thrift store last week - Value Village actually has an amazing selection of new costume stuff every year. My daughter found me this homemade coat:
It fits like it was made for me, too. It’s not too long and the shoulders are wide enough. Someone made this, loved it, and then ended up donating it for whatever reason so I’m happy to give it a home again.
o_0 they look like regular bunny ears to me. Well, gothic looking with the black.
I have to accept the fact that I won’t have my trooper costume done in time for the kids trunk or treat - probably not in time for Halloween and my Work party. Well I can dust off my Joker for trunk or treat. I just spent $$ on that Mehron stuff… hope I like it. And some brushes. I can’t really wear that to work… I wore it last year… Might do my Shadow or do a Ghost Pirate again…
Might have it done by Halloween…
The good news is I am in the home stretch for my kiddos costume. The main fabrication is done, but I have to shape the hair. Finish painting and gluing the gauntlets, but the main work on those is done (opting for a slightly simpler design than I originally intended. I am trying to use this washable gel glue for a dye mask. I have one more area to finish - but it takes awhile to dry. Fingers crossed if it works I will be giddy. If it doesn’t I will curse, go to Target (hopefully they have another set) and just paint a leg black. I really wanted to be done this weekend but it didn’t happen.
Tonight I am buying an electric knife to carve the hair. I have the basic block shape… now, fingers crossed, I can make round out the edges, make the the sides smoother… I found out I can snip it to shape some with scissors - like a hair cut. Just please make this work because I don’t have a good plan B… afro wig shipped amazon prime and cut into a blockish shape.
Just FYI, my daughter reports that the junior thugs at the local high school are claiming they are going to beat unconscious anyone going out for Hallowe’en dressed as a clown. They reportedly believe they will get away with this because of the infantile killer clown scare currently en vogue on the East Coast among idiots and fools. The report is reliable, the people being reported on are most assuredly not.
I am seriously considering a clown costume myself, but being prepared to defend myself would probably interfere with my usual Hallowe’en practice of drinking and carousing, so maybe not.
OMG Value Village! I bought way too many of my school clothes there back in the 70s. It was always my favorite thrift store, tucked away behind the El Cajon Kmart.
I had a fairly decent unicycle and pogo stick as a kid, both sourced from VV.
I’m in a pretty pricy neighborhood, so some of the stuff that shows up at this place is really nice. If I had a need for designer suits, I am pretty sure I could snag a few with a little patience.
Ours was in a not-very-fancy neighborhood (behind the Kmart, remember), but I never knew if VV was a chain or not. Ours was the only Value Village I ever saw, not like the Salvation Army or Goodwill or even Out Of The Closet.
Trunk or treat was last night. My kids costume wasn’t perfect, but I can make it close to that by Halloween.
My trooper armor wasn’t done so I put on my old Joker costume. First time using this type of paint. Mehron clown white goes on amazingly well but it did dry at all and got every where… and then the paint I used for the black lines had mixed success. I tried to set it with this powder, but I realize I had nothing to apply it. And even if I did, I think after a few dabs I’d end up with a paint covered applier. But maybe not. But I really have no idea wtf I am doing and every one else liked it so I guess I am too hard on my self. One girl gleefully wanted a pic with me in her Harley costume. Note to self - lose 10 lbs or there is no way you will fit into this again. I bought it when I was depressed and under weight ha.
Garnet from Steven Universe. Had it ready for the trunk or treat. Sadly I screwed up making the shoulder pads. I had so elastic that would have helped keep them in the right shape but I put it in the wrong place. Doh. I can fix it for Halloween. Every thing is craft foam and painted upholstery foam. The hands were those soft Hulk hands - actually Spider-Man - with lots of paint. Can’t wait to show her off at comic con. I need to find something better for the glasses. They are see through but blurry. We added her third eye later. I’m hoping to take better pics for Halloween and do some photoshop on them.
