Not the entire state, but the legislators that propose measures like this and and members of the judiciary that support them, sure. Most get financial support to stay in their positions, and cutting that off sends a message (and possibly removes them from positions of power).
Add in the fascist assholes who vote for them as well.
That was the dumbest Supreme Court ruling in awhile. It basically null and voids the constitution if states can just pass a “We aren’t enforcing a law, we are just letting private citizens sue.” At some point that has to be over turned.
I’m not holding my breath…the only way I can see that getting overturned is if California passes their similar law regarding guns
The party of small government, my ass.
Methinks you need a really basic lesson in civics. The Idaho House of Representatives did not pass a law. They passed a House Bill. Before it can be a law it also have to wend it’s way thru the Idaho Senate and then be signed into law by the Governor.
Having said that, the House Bill 675 is stupid. IF I lived in Idaho, I strongly think that no frickin law would keep me from moving out of the state regardless of my intent (employment, retirement, medical, etc).
Thus the headline “Idaho moves to make gender-affirming care for teens a felony…” rather than “Idaho passes law making gender-affirming care for teens a felony…”
Oh, that’s fine then… must not be a real problem if the headline got a word wrong… /s
Another thing that seems to work is when public and private organizations stop holding events in states that pull this shit.
Before I joined the federal program I worked with, they wanted to hold the big biennial conference in AZ, and that state was well-situated for it. BUT, AZ hadn’t yet adopted MLK JR. Day as a recognized holiday so the federal gov’t said no federally-funded or subsidized conferences or meetings could be held there until they did. Adds up to a chunk of change!
And didn’t college ball do similar in NC not too long ago?
It has the added benefit of giving publicity to these stupid shenanigans which usually leads to larger public outcry and action.
But again, as others have said, waiting until this passes into law makes it already too late to help some of the victims of it.
I don’t know about NC, but part of the reason why GA ended up not passing a bathroom bill a while ago was due to pressure from the film industry and other industries.
Doesn’t always work, but it can.
Which it definitely did not.
Methinks that reading comprehension may not be what it used to be
He’s on about the post, methinks.
I did write “law” there, but I think the difference, in this case, is notably irrelevant.
Time for that classic “School House Rock” video explaining how a misnomer becomes a derail.
I unpacked “frustrating” first
Reached in and found the word “worst”
I’m so fucking tired. Than furious, then tired. Rise and repeat.
That said - I do support Poland donating MIG’s to parents of trans kids in Idaho.
