In-N-Out donates $25,000 to California Republican Party, under Trump. There's a boycott.

Oh, my beloved North Woods Inn.

Loved that place until they moved. Just wasn’t the same after that. I especially love the fact that the building is now home to the Scarlet Ranch swinger’s club.

You’re in luck! There are still three in Southern California.

I ate there in New Jersey and was a bit underwhelmed. We have a brand-new one near home, though, so I will probably give it another chance.

Speaking of New Jersey, the best burgers we’d had in a while were at 30 Burgers, but one location (Dunellen) was way better than another (Bound Brook, where they oversalted one burger). IIRC the chain (or, at least some locations) were formerly called 28 Burgers; there’s another place in New Brunswick with this name, apparently unrelated to the others and not nearly as good.

Had one there recently and was very pleasantly surprised. Presumably they use a griddle. I would put them ahead of Five Guys in any case.

Elevation is (IIRC) a buck or so more than 5G but I like their burgers better, as well. But 5G wins with the fries.

I’ve had their frozen burgers, but have never actually eaten at/from a White Castle. I have however, eaten many times at Krystal (which is, from what I can tell, very nearly the same thing) and I will continue to do so when I have the opportunity (which is seldom, and probably just as well).

My $0.02 (which I posted in a Yelp review):

Food’s ok, burgers aren’t very big (even with two patties, though at these prices it’s hard to complain about that). What’s frustrating is that we (with a bunch of impatient kids) ordered milkshakes 40 minutes ago and have yet to receive them.

The place seems fairly disorganized, e.g. no dedicated cashier (the wait staff has to put off what they’re doing and handle it), long intervals in which the tables aren’t bused etc. I’m told this is because they prioritize the drive-thru window. Well, they need to either hire more staff dedicated to that, or scrap it. I don’t think we’ll be back with other (quicker) options around, like Freddy’s.

Sigh. Another boycott of a company that I already don’t (and in this instance, can’t) patronize.

Just once I’d like the opportunity to jump on a really exciting boycott. This “well, I guess I’ll just keep not giving money to the company I already wasn’t giving money to” business is so unsatisfying.

(To be clear, I make no claims to being some sort of cutting-edge consumer who was boycotting companies before boycotting those companies became cool. Usually I’m just not interested in their products).

After 21 years as a vegetarian (20 through 30’s) I started to eat meat again. One day I stopped for gas and there was a burger king next door. As a kid I preferred Bk to Md. So I grabbed a burger and fries. As I waited for my order memories of my childhood came to mind. The food came to the window. It smelled pretty savory. The fries were ok. Crisp and not too salty. …and then the burger was so bad and different from what I remembered that I threw it away after a couple of bites. It was a couple years before anyone could convince me to try some of the better burger options. For a long time my answer was a firm NOPE fool me once…

Nostalgia can be a dangerous drug.

Yeah, I totally don/‘t get the buzz about 5 Guys. They put one in locally and I was excited to try it. It was a good burger, but no better than In N’ Out and at about double the price/

Obviously they don’t share your view that the Republicans are fascists.

Well, there’s the boycott of Nike that just got underway. It’s early but looks like its going to be pretty exciting!

That’s the Duke of Doubt for ya…
