In the chaos of the Muslim ban, the rule of man trumps the rule of law

And no Egypt, which has Trump properties and buys weapons from us.

Since he’s been doing it for quite a while now, I’d say yes.

Commentary from Benjamin Wittes at Lawfare. The author is borderline fascist himself and even he thinks the order is nuts. He literally calls it “malevolent.”

Seems like the saving grace might be that the Breitbart crew is beyond incompetent. Fingers crossed.

Middle Eastern/African Muslims are once again being made the boogey man so that your liberties can be stripped from you. Only unlike 9/11, there hasn’t been an actual event or reason to crack down on anything. Nothing being done is making us safer. People with legit visas and green cards are being affected for no reasons.

I dunno if I would call it a Muslim ban, but then again we need it packaged into an easy to communicate wording and “Ban on several countries in the Middle East and Africa primarily populated by brown and black Muslims” doesn’t roll off the tongue well. If it were to just ban Muslims, Indonesia, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh would need to be on the list.

FYI - if anyone you know uses the “well, we just want to vet them” excuse, inform them we have had a vetting process in place for a long time. Obama even halted refugees for 6 mo in 2011 so they could make sure the vetting process didn’t have holes. Unlike back then, nothing has happened to make anyone think there is a problem with the current process. It is pointless at best, and probably part of a bigger plan at worse.

Prime time for a false flag operation! Expect an embassy, a diplomat, or a Trump tower to be sacrificed as a causus belli

Twitter needs to ban him. Can we get a mass flagging campaign going? If nothing else, he nominally has more important things to do.

Violating US immigration law … interesting. How about we start #DeportMelania trending if it isn’t already?

Not really, because I can’t recall the last time a false flag call was actually true. I am sure your statement was in jest, but if there were Jihadist planning something, the back lash would be severe, but at the same time, that is sorta what they want. They want to escalate things.

That’s just what they want you to think, man!

Maybe they wouldn’t need to actually commit a terrorist act themselves, but they could decide to ‘let through’ one being planned by genuine terrorists that would otherwise be stopped by security services.

The actual problem is that Trump is an amateur. If he wanted a Muslim ban or some travel restrictions, he could have given notice to the DHS, made the restrictions take effect in a weeks time, avoid people being banned mid-flight and stopped on arrival in the US. He could stop issuing new visas and just honour the ones already issued. In short he could have acted ‘lawfully’ and achieved much of the same result. But Trump purely wants theatre rather than rational or effective policy.

They’re seriously #alllivesmatter-ing the Holocaust? WTF? I didn’t think they could get any more tone-deaf

Oh my freaking God. They’re calling All Lives Matter on the Holocaust?

Edit: Mitchell got there first.

When I saw it, I was thinking that you’d just talked about Ireland, so I should send you a note to draw your attention to it, but you’ve already seen it!

For those interested, I found this transcript of the actual order.

Basically everything is done under the security banner. Although:

  1. Why? Where was the old system failing?

  2. Even if revisions were needed, why the severe Madagascar-like method? One could have had things revised with out the interruption.
