Italian ad with nuns eating potato chips as communion wafers called 'blasphemy'

I guess people are allowed to be offended but the priest isn’t passing out potato chips as a replacement for the host.

A nun is snacking on chips during communion.

Like others, I’m also an ex altar boy, we also stole sleeves of pre blessed hosts and snacked on them.

During mass the priest blessed the hosts and then they represented the body of Christ not before. Us Catholics always new it was a symbol and it could be anything the priest held up when we rang the bell.

That ad isn’t even close to being blasphemy.

I’m sure that there have been occasions when, due to a lack of hosts, people improvised with simple crackers. Faith manages, and what’s a little transubstitution before the transubstantiation?

Oops, that got posted as I was posting and I missed it.

Still, in my opinion, it’s not bad.

But, I’m no longer a practicing Catholic so maybe I would be offended if I were.

Or if practicing your religion is made illegal by an occupying power. Communion wafers would be a dead giveaway.

Custom communion wafers are a relatively recent invention anyway.

Nope. See my post above, but a common (immaculate?) misconception

TBH, the ad stroke me more for the sexist vein (all nuns are young and beautiful, except for the chip eating one - I caught it as a ‘patatina’ reference.

Playing with religion has always been a way to catch attention, in some cases for a good cause, as in the following cover of “Espresso” magazine.
It was 1975, I wasn’t even a teen. The magazine was retired from circulation for offending religion, but it raised quite a ruckus and was a contributing factor for the referendum that made abortion in Italy not a crime.

Blurred, as it’s mildly NSFW.

No pun detected.

You have no taste.

What goes with a packet of crisps? Cola!

The ad campaign was masterminded by the Prince of Space.

The long version make it much clearer what they were going for.

I think the misdirection cut is funnier.

I have a hard time taking this complaint seriously, especially when I could turn on the tv randomly and come across a dozen more serious blasphemies within an hour. Having a sense of humor about such things is a better way to go through life.
