As someone on Twitter said a couple of years ago, people who believe these conspiracy theories have clearly never been project managers. Their optimism is adorable. (ok, in reality, more horrifying than adorable, but I didn’t make the original tweet)

Bring as much equipment to shoot videos as you can; wherever possible, have all filming devices print timeline and GPS coords on the video. If possible have them stream directly to a safe place while recording. Expect agents provocateurs (cops, right wingers, etc) to attempt sabotaging the movement in order to ease a smear campaign from the media. Always stay alert.

Remember, all “antifa” means is “anti-fascist”. So, unless the old man was a Nazi, he probably was anti-fascist.
Keep in mind there are only 3 possible categories that everyone falls into:
- Pro-fascism
- Perfectly OK and Content with fascism but not militant about it.
- Against fascism
My grandfather, and most of his generation in the US were decidedly against fascism, and went to violent extremes to fight against it. Went to war over it. WW2 vets are, by definition, antifia. Korean war vets, Vietnam war vets, Cold war vets, Iraqi war vets and Afghanistan war vets arguably were were also fighting against fascist totalitarian regimes, so would also be antifa. Although the real reasons for the war in Vietnam and Iraq/Afghanistan are a bit more murky, possibly those were purely political stunts.
BTW, I think everyone should stop using the abbreviated term “antifa” and just spell the whole damn thing out “anti-fascism” so that when people see it on protester signs on fox news there’s no room for being re-interpreted by the gas-lighting newscasters to mean “anti-American” (which is what they appear to be claiming)
Everyone has a choice. They can fight against fascism like our forefathers did, or they can fight on the side of fascism like the Nazis did. If you are not Anti-Fascist, then that means you are Anti-Freedom.

I don’t know of anything that’d selectively block only police, but a big old sparkgap can make a hell of a racket all up and down the spectrum.
It’d be the size of something that would be very obvious. So that wasn’t what happened.

If you bought that antifa are a terrorist organization and we all need to hide in our basement bunkers from them, and then you learn that you’ve been hiding from a calm, polite seeming elderly gentleman that police can nearly kill with one sucker-push, you have to realize that “your side” is cowards or lying. I expect someone is already saying that, given how insane the right-wing conspiracy theories have become. The previously fringe narratives are now mainstream, so the fringe conspiracy theorists had to step up their game to be sufficiently nutty to stay fringe.

More seriously expressed: I think making the connection between the sitting president and dubious news sources is very important, but “a Russian” feels like putting 145 k people under a general general suspicion. Plus the diaspora. Many of which are abroad because conditions in Russia are like they are.
OTH, from the outside view of a central western European like me, a racist super-rich narcissistic anti-intellectual über-capitalist (I could keep adding adjectives for a long time) reality-TV conman seems like the distilled essence of stereotype I have about US-Americans.
So, if asked who I trust, an US-American or a Russian, and weighing stereotypes…
