Kavanaugh faces gang rape claims. Third woman “witness and victim” to be revealed, Avenatti says

I didn’t say that I don’t trust him. But the fact that he is on this case as well as the Stormy Daniels one makes it easier for people to push the narrative that this is ALL a coordinated attack on Trump/Conservatives/The Constitution. And the are pushing HARD on that idea. I don’t want to make that an easier case to make.

If I were going to sue Trump, I would absolutely shop around. In the words of Rod Blagojevich, it’s “a f***ing valuable thing; I’m not just going to give it away for nothing.”

Also, who said pro bono? Avenatti doesn’t stand to make any money off Stormy Daniels’ case because a former partner has put a lien on his legal earnings. That’s not the same as pro bono.

I guess Avenatti has closed his Twitter feed now.

In this case we’re not talking about a woman who is suing Trump, or even a woman suing Kavanaugh. We’re talking about a woman coming forward with a story of sexual assault who needs someone to give her legal protection from those who would try to sue her for slander.

Let them make that claim. Facts are facts and its not like the right wing already doesn’t have their conspiracies in their closet. They will always make the Left look like the bad guys. Get the biggest, baddest attorney out there and unleash him. Sic 'em!

Avenatti may be a showy lawyer that seems to thrive on sleazy cases, but I haven’t yet seen any evidence the he’s anything less than a competent and skilled attorney.

No, shopped.

Nope, nope, nope.

Yes, and she also picked someone who can broadcast her message quickly and loudly. That benefits the republic.

Or we’re talking about a Republican plant targeting a brilliant and somewhat sketchy lawyer who is swimming in unfamiliar waters and might be too cocky to suspect a trap.

Discredit Avenatti via Kavanaugh and you damage Daniels, Ford, and Ramirez at the same time.

It sounds a bit conspiratorial but it happens. The case I’m really thinking of, but cannot find on Google, was an attempt to trick a major newspaper with a fake leak of classified info (that was almost impossible to verify). There’s a real disinformation campaign happening on the right and this would be perfectly consistent with that playbook.

Oh come on—the James O’Keefe sting you referenced was uncovered almost immediately and fooled no one. Republicans may not above that sort of thing but frankly they suck at it.

Nothing this White House has done so far suggests that they would be capable of successfully driving trollies Avenatti in this way. Even if they did it would almost certainly backfire spectacularly once the scam was revealed.

None of his “stings” have fooled anyone. Seemingly ever. Even the Acorn one that had so much fallout. The employees he was “stinging” knew something was up, and that he was bullshitting. But went along with it to get rid of him. And ultimately that isn’t related to what lead to Acorn being shut down.

The guy who followed his model for the Planned Parenthood “sting” ended up in prison, for fraud and falsifying federal ID/Identity theft.

The cat’s pretty much out of the bag on shit like that. People who’ve already made up their minds use it as an excuse for their positions. And every time it happens there is less and less impact, and it back fires more.

It was extremely plausible to be real nowadays from FOX. Things are so surreal I expected it to be real

Brietbart? Is that you?

That’s unfair. He’s just very, very concerned about how liberals and progressives are responding to the conservatives and the alt-right. Where, oh where, is our civility?

I love how the GOP/Kav team have brought up a 1982 calendar from high school for him.

WHO KEEPS SHIT LIKE THAT?!?

I’d say that it would be pretty damn ez to forge entries.

Because reporters know how people try to play them so they’re prepared for it. Now people try to play Lawyers too, but not in the same way (at least not their own clients). And Avenatti might be extra vulnerable since he is so desperate to become a part of the story and get on the news.

An idea being stupid hasn’t stopped the WH before.

But there’s plenty of other unscrupulous conservative groups.

I wasn’t aware that the M.O. of Brietbart was to accuse conservatives of playing unethical dirty tricks on liberals.

What are you talking about? Confidentiality exists in part so that the client can tell the lawyer the real story, which informs the lawyer’s approach during the case and which allows him to cover his arse in terms of professional conduct. In some ways showboating lawyers are more cognizant of the need to cover themselves.

I think he’s talking about the M.O. of their pearl-clutching in the (comparatively rare) cases where liberals respond to those dirty tricks with rough tactics of their own, especially when they ascribe those tactics to a conspiracy.

We get it: you don’t like Avenatti’s gaudiness. No-one on the left really does, but most of us understand that standing by while this PR-hungry slimer willingly jumps into the mud to wrestle with the other PR-hungry slimers doesn’t mean we’re all willing to slide into the mud via your slippery slope. It also doesn’t mean that he isn’t a competent lawyer, as demonstrated by the way he’s shielded himself and his clients so far.

Imagine if Ted Bundy had tried to argue his innocence by pointing out that his appointment book for 1974 didn’t include any entries for rape and murder.
