Kentucky congressman posts dumb holiday photo of family showing off their big guns, just days after the Michigan high school shooting

As someone who speaks the language of sarcasm and irony, and loathes having a joke fact checked, I see your sardonic wit, and salute your comment. :crown:

it opens the Overton Window wide and lets in that fresh Fascist breeze.

My reply was focused on this patently ridiculous notion.

Then you made some quip about me personally vetting every one of Bannon’s “shock troops”, which I guess is… clever or something?

But your larger point is that if it descends into guerilla warfare, we can’t win. So, they have in fact already won, in your estimation. So, game over.

No, that’s your strawman. My point is that the time to take them seriously is now.

Unless they are non-functioning replicas. Those are not difficult to find or obtain.

Why should we assume a Kentucky Republican will represent something in an honest fashion?

I mean, they really don’t, do they. They’ve glorified this kind of thing and ignored how horrific it is. The people who are foot soldiers in these kinds of movements end up broken, broken people, as are their families, communities, etc… Many of the militia types are not prepared to abandon their comfortable way of life and carry on a protracted war. They believe what they’ve been told by their leaders that the “liberal establishment” is weak and will fold at the slightest pressure and it’ll be a cake walk for them. I’m sure that the people who carry out actions for other groups who’ve been involved in this kind of warfare were told the very same thing and believed it, until they couldn’t anymore.

Because why? Because the US army lost wars going up against people who saw us as an invading force? With a population that even if they weren’t outright hostile kind of agreed that we were an invading force? Apples and oranges, I’d argue, to that same situation playing out at home. This isn’t vietnam or Iraq.

Bannon has been harking on about having 20,000 shock troops that can take the country, which is such a ridiculous statement that I don’t know where to begin… thinking that what he considers “shock troops” to be able to take on the US military is ridiculous on it’s face. You seem to believe that it’s the case that his “shock troops” will be effective.

How is it a strawman when it’s essentially what you’re arguing here - that if they have an entrenched guerilla war, then there is nothing that can be done.

We should have taken them seriously in the 1980s, actually. They did not sprout up over night. They’ve been trying to gin up a race war for literally decades now and they are close to getting what they want… This, however, should not be an issue solved by the military. It’s a law enforcement issue. Breaking down their criminal networks and putting people in jail is what needs to happen.

I’m aware, but this current wave dates to the post-civil rights wave of white supremacist groups and how they’ve attempted to roll back progress made. The larger context matters.

How about not being insulting. If you have no interest in that, we’re done here. I really don’t need yet more men talking down to me like I’m a child. If you want to pretend like you’re the only person here with an informed take on what’s happening in our country and anyone who disagrees with you is just wrong, than have that conversation with someone else. I’m done with being talked down to.

I think you’d identified the " ‘family values’ Zardoz" demographic.

This is such a nice touch. The Boeberts would like the Massies to know that they support them on their glorious right-wing crusade! They would never actually help them though. Helping is for communists.

You hear so many stupid fantasies about how right-wing gun nuts could beat the US army, when the truth is most of them would only care about their individual bunkers. A Roman legion could probably work to take them down.

OT: This pic would get her voted out if it wasn’t for the pending redistricting. W CO is ok with guns, but one of her progeny is wearing a Raiders sweatshirt and Broncos fans hate the Raiders more than anything, even though they have now dropped the last 12 in a row to the Chiefs.
