Ooh, a test. That sounds hard.

It’s confusing to read the quotes, because either one could be saying the same thing about the other, believably.
“We will wipe you out!” said… um without attribution, I’m lost.

I liked it better when we all just pretty much knew that if a missile was fired from N Korea towards the US, that North Korea would be removed from the map before anything lands in America. We don’t have to keep saying it. Everyone knows. There is no World War 3. North Korea has zero allies. It would last an hour, and we’d apologize to South Korea for any fallout or blood spatter Also, they would have a nice big crater they would annex. Doesn’t matter who is President here or what anti-war folks might dissent. It would happen.
So shut up about it, you bloated reality tv idiot. The goal is to make it LESS likely.

It might take a lot of apologising if there is fallout in Seoul, or any of the many large Chinese cities close to the border.

But as you say, the goal is to make it less likely to happen.

Stolen from somewhere in the enterwebs:

Hey remember early last year when the Large Hadron Collider overloaded and broke down and people were like “phew good thing nothing weird happened like a shift in reality.” Maybe it’s time to revisit that.

Saying NK is stuck with nearly 50 year old technology is completely wrong and based on meaningless stereotyping. If anything their infrastructure is comparable to the US, and their adoption of technology has mostly caught up even if Kim Jong Il managed to keep NK as a time capsule during his lifetime.

Their air force is practically a non-entity at this point.

Their infrastructure is not even comparable to South Korea, let alone the US. Even when it comes to producing nukes. North Korea only has one reactor at Youngbyon. By all accounts it is a Chernobyl in waiting. South Korea has 23 reactors.

“Caught up” at this stage really means, “can cause a lot of mayhem before finally going up in smoke”.

I find it odd that so few people know the word ‘dotard’. I learned it from Tolkien, then came across it later in Shakespeare.

What’s even more odd is that nobody seems to be mentioning Trump’s adoption of val-speak:

Just because the leaders in Pyongyang have new computers from China and cars and can chuck a few 70s era missiles in the air, doesn’t mean the vast majority is any where near the level of “infrastructure [that] is comparable to the US, and their adoption of technology has mostly caught up”.

I was going to point out that it was in LoTR, but I didn’t. Thanks. I learned it from him, also.

That’s my fault. North Korea has infrastructure comparable to parts of the US.

The US has many sections of populated country with crumbling power lines and crap roads and schools that cannot teach the basic fundamentals. The simple fact is that NK has greatly increased its power porduction, is spending a huge chunk of money on sustainable energy, has modern internet connections (obviously censored to a degree higher than any other), has laid fiber cable for their network infrastructure, etc. Their schools are functional and they have developed their own central systems with relatively limited help. They are not locked in a Stone Age, even if they have functional crappy trains.

Their military is all soviet garbage that has only improved their nuclear power, but military is not infrastructure.

I can agree with most of that. I know that the new tech is allowing a large black market for South Korean media. Previously it was via VCDs/DVDs. Now it is USB drives played on portable players and SD chips. They watch South Korean shows and even American movies.

They also have been using the latest phones since 2011. I cannot stress enough that Kim Jong Il was entirely incompetent and happy to live the life of an aloof plutocrat that spent his energy making movies, but Kim Jong Un was immediately underestimated by the west because he purposely gained weight in a political move to look more like his popular grandfather while he fed his disloyal uncles to dogs. You can’t treat the regimes the same, but many people are happy to be like “oh it’s just another Kim family bafoon.”

It wasn’t exactly one of their best episodes, but that song made up for a lot

Oh man, that video is SOOO painful to watch.
