Lady at walk-in clinic demands to see a white doctor

Yeah? So? I do to, but I’m not an ignorant racist fuckwit.

Methinks “walk-in” in 'Murica has a different connotation than it does up here? Technically, every clinic is “free clinic” up here, and “walk-in” just means you don’t need an appointment, you can just walk in and see the next available doctor. I googled “private doctors office” in Mississauga, and they don’t exist, only specialists, and they require referrals.

OH sorry, misread, walk-in, not free.

Still, walk in vs a specific doctor means you take what they have.

Oh yeah, you take what you get at a walk in.

Also, complicating this matter, she’s in a region that has changed a lot in the last 20 years. It used to be primarily white, working-middle class families. Now its 54% “visible minority”, mainly Southeast Asian, and thats only growing.

Its interesting, I live in an area “downtown” that was primarily Asian/SoutheastAsian, but is becoming white & “gentrified”, and the suburbs that were white are now becoming Asian/SoutheastAsian. There’s an urban/suburban swap going on in Toronto, and those for that can’t afford to move or don’t want to… its going to be disconcerting. And I predict more of this kind of flare up before the dust settles.

My favorite part is when the other patients start confronting her.

So she’d be happy with a ‘pure laine’ Quebecois(e)?

I suspect not.

I had a gynecologist that I absolutely loved but for one thing; I could not parse her accent. Somewhere between my ears and my brain I’d just lose what she was saying. I have trouble with some accents and hers just happened to be one of them.

My least favorite ethnicity to see as a doctor though is probably a white guy. They rarely listen to what I’m saying.

Harold Shipman was very friendly, right up to the point he was administering overdoses of diamorphine to elderly women who had recently written him into their will.

But even Shipman is an amateur compared to this guy (who was found not guilty on all charges of murder at the time)

My GPs surgery would just refuse to see that woman for her racism, and the doctors and nurses are mostly white there. They are not required to deal with abusive people.

He had ~160, assuming the allegations are true. Shipman had at least 50 more that we know about.

My first thought was actually H. H. Holmes, but he had no more than 27 murders and was only convicted of 9.

It’s funny because it’s true.

Come now. I think we all know the best choice to assist this woman.

I used to work at a bank and I had several customers who would loudly refuse to see white tellers. It was embarrassing at first, when a stranger is hollering that I’m not trustworthy enough to do her transactions because of my skin. The loudest eventually let me because I just kept being nice to her until I won her over. People can be strange.

“She said some people are pointing to the election of U.S. President Donald Trump making people feel more comfortable saying things they normally wouldn’t. But Teelucksingh thinks there’s a more important factor: perceived multiculturalism, or the assumption by some Canadians that racial minorities are already treated equally across the country.”

So, racist Canadians who treat minorities in ‘unequal’ ways think that said minorities are treated equally?

Just based on only the food, I have zero issues. Bring on the spicy stuff, man!

Basically yes. It’s white Canadians who are now the besieged victims, you see.

Notwithstanding plain old stupidity, I think lack of true, deep, self introspection is a malady of racists. Then again, they could just be anal sphincters.

Perhaps. Then again (based on one of the films) Red Dragon might be just the ticket.

Now if she had simply demanded her doctor have a specific gender, there’d be general applause and a requirement she be accommodated even if one was not available most likely, especially if she asserted she simply felt more comfortable with a gender she prefers…

One form of discrimination is acceptable and even considered progressive and another not. All depends on the culture and overall social atmosphere.

Mind you, I want a doctor I can understand and whose teeth don’t look like they’ve been exposed to years of tobacco or betel juice or what have you too but above all, I want a competent one and I don’t much care about color or gender in that case…

She wants a doctor she feels she can trust. Not excusing the racism since she is concerned mire with skin color than qualifications, which is silly.
