As I recall one of the early scandals of the Trump administration (quickly forgotten in the never-ending avalanche of subsequent scandals) was the revelation that Trump granted high level security clearances to a bunch of his idiot children and his daughter’s idiot husband Jared even though none of them would have a prayer of passing a standard background check.

McConnell may be evil but he’s still a coward. He won’t eviscerate Trump publicly until he believes it’s politically safe to do so. The closest he’s come so far was in the immediate wake of the January 6 insurrection, and even then he started walking back his criticism after it became apparent that most Republican voters were cool with it.

You really think, at the point where Trump is trying to diminish him in front of his minions, he’s going to have the self control to maintain his cool? He thinks of himself as being the eternal head of Republican government.
I mean, I don’t KNOW how it’s going to go, but it seems that Trump’s power is waning, which is why he’s lashing out at McConnell, so there’s a lot less danger to The Turtle if he stands up for himself now.

We’ll have to wait and see. Trump has been publicly demeaning prominent Republicans for years but most of the time they just grit their teeth and take it.
Just look at the vile things Trump has said about perennial bootlicker Ted Cruz and his family.

There is also a lot he can do quietly. The RNC took back funding from several trump endorsed senate candidates. I could see McConnel having a hand in that and similar sabotage of trump’s efforts.
