Well yeah, they havenโ€™t been good since like, the 1860s?

I doubt though that The Bulwark, a conservative outlet/platform, goes back that far.

I wonder how many speeding tickets these โ€œbadgesโ€ have gotten him out of?

Trump Bought Kushnerโ€™s Book Onto Bestsellers List

October 17, 2022Trump Corruption, Trump Lies

Forbes reports:

โ€œBreaking History: A White House Memoirโ€ hit book shelves on Aug. 23. Two weeks later, the Save America Joint Fundraising Committee, which raises money for two Trump PACs, paid retailer Books-A-Million $131,000 for โ€œcollateral:books,โ€ according to a campaign filing made Saturday with the Federal Election Commission.

On Sept. 11, four days after that bulk purchase, Kushnerโ€™s book appeared for the first time on the New York Times best sellers list.

On Sept. 22, Save America purchased another $27,000 worth of books. โ€œBreaking Historyโ€ spent five weeks on the best-seller list before falling off. Save America Joint Fundraising Committee is currently offering copies of Kusherโ€™s book in exchange for donations of $75 or more.

Heโ€™s just making use of the same campaign $ grifting scheme used by many other politicians:

I thought they had ways of detecting these kinds of bulk purchases, and/or that they put a dagger after it as a caveat.

Maybe a few good ones held on into the 1870s, but yeahโ€ฆ they started a pro-business turn by the 1870s, for sureโ€ฆ that damned backroom deal in 1877โ€ฆ

The NYT bestseller list is officially a work where editorial freedom of speech is protected. William Beatty Blatty and his publishers sued the NYT over the sequel to Exorcist in โ€˜83 saying they had sold enough to be on it. NYT said it was not mathematical but editorial content. This is the reason that many christian books donโ€™t get on it, enough copies are sold but they often take the view that a church buying them and forcing everyone at camp to read it etc. doesnโ€™t meet reasonable criteria. They have a point because lists of books bought by donors are lists of books that, by definition, are not considered worth buying by individuals. They might be though after gaming the listing if they can get away with that.

That the NYT let this obvious example of gaming the list fly suggests that being an elite insider works out pretty well.

People have been manipulating the NYT list for decades, so perhaps itโ€™s not in someoneโ€™s interest to fix it?

(Kind of like ticket sales and scalper bots.)

And yet Scientology was able game the list by sending members to buy Elronโ€™s books at the specific stores that were reporting sales to NYT. (And then theyโ€™d turn them in to be sent out again. There were many reports of people at stores opening shipments from Bridge Publications, and finding stickers from other stores still on the books.)

Tulsi Gabbard compared President Joe Biden to Adolf Hitler.

Gotta get out there and get her grift on by making some headlines!

Thatโ€™s funny coming from someone auditioning to become Goebbels on Fox.

Iโ€™ll give the party credit for ending up on the right side of history for womensโ€™ suffrage and for generally being the least-worst of the major parties on racial equality into the early years of the 20th century, but I canโ€™t think of anything good theyโ€™ve accomplished in at least two or three generations.
