Clearly this isn’t about the border, or Mayorkas, or even differences on immigration policy.
It’s about delegitimizing the entire concept of the impeachment process to make their guy’s record seem less bad.

Well, Trump also wants to make the border one of his key campaign issues, which is why he told Johnson to kill the deal that Congressional Republicans and Democrats had worked out with Mayorkas. One of the Republicans who voted against impeachment and said very strongly how ridiculous this all is also announced he’s decided to not run for re-election. So another “reasonable” Republican is a coward who won’t stay and fight.
ETA: And Suozzi has now won the special election for the NY 3rd, so the GOP’s majority is even narrower. Expect the House to do absolutely nothing the rest of the year.
