Marjorie Taylor Greene wants "national divorce," but dummy doesn't see who a secession would hurt most

This is the case in all Blue states: the conservative/white nationalist voters live in a third-world version of that state, absolutely convinced their taxes support the Godless communist government of the Democratic majority, when in reality they’d be living in a Fox-news version of Haiti if it weren’t for the income liberal-minded individuals and industries provide that support them.

It’s the story here in Washington state. The state is very much red east of the Cascades, and residents there think all their hard-earned money supports the perverts and communists in the Puget Sound region, when they’re the biggest recipients of state and federal social safety net dollars and wouldn’t even have an economy if it weren’t for first-generation and undocumented immigrants.

Could you explain the phase “unelected Brussels dictators” I am unfamiliar with it.

Both NATO and the European Union parliament are headquartered in Brussels. Although the EU parliament is elected.

It’s an anti-EU talking point because we don’t directly elect the European Commission, even though its membership is selected by the elected leaders of the EU member states and we do elect the European Parliament.

Puerto Rico and DC laugh at your concerns.

The “Brussels Dictators” were British. They all left after Brexit. Unfortunately they moved back home.

You’re confusing “have no voice” with “if I don’t always win it’s oppression”.

No they can’t. Supporters of bad ideas just claim that. Counties are a subdivision of states and can’t have any power not extended to them by their state. The US constitution has pretty explicit bars against such things in article 1 section ten and article 4 section 3. Counties don’t exist in their own right at all in the US legal system.

Yeah, I’ve seen this covered before. Folks who promote it want something ill-advised for their own personal gain/reasons…right up until the moment they find out what it costs. No state is going to give another state their territory for free. As soon as that cost is pointed out to taxpayers, this idea will die a very quick death - to the relief of those who are concerned about the real human costs in pursuing such divisive plans:

It’s basically the same as complaining about FDA regulations because the head of the FDA is appointed, not directly elected. Which is to say it is a disingenuous argument intended to muddy and derail

No, they really aren’t. Oregon isn’t considering it, and Idaho only passed a resolution to troll Dems in their own state.

More than 90% of the land in the counties that voted in favor of leaving Oregon is public land. That land doesn’t just up and move. If someone thinks they aren’t getting a fair shake (despite getting 260% return on their state taxes) they are free to leave; but they can’t take the land with them. That’s not how this works.

I guess they are like Brexiters, they all don’t know they have a good deal until they leave.

Plus, the EU helped keep the Tories in check much of the time. As every, people were hornswoggled in to voting agianst their own best interests.

From Cornwall Live

Cornwall is set to get less than half the amount of money it was expected to get from the EU before Brexit. The Government has announced that Cornwall will get £132m from the Shared Prosperity Fund over the next three years, it had been expected that Cornwall would have got around £100m a year if we remained in the EU.

I did the math on this and here are the results. If the United States split up into “red” and “blue” countries according to how each state voted in the 2020 presidential election—

  • China would be the largest economy in the world, at $18.3 trillion in GDP
  • The United States of Blue States would be second, at $16.3 trillion in GDP
  • The United States of Red States would be third, at $9.8 trillion in GDP
  • The United States of Blue States would be the eighth largest country in the world by population (about 188.7 million)
  • The United States of Red States would be the tenth largest country in the world by population (about 141 million)

The notion that a Red State Nation would be completely destitute isn’t terribly well-founded; the United States is geographically large and has a lot of resources scattered throughout the country, plus we’re fairly evenly divided. But the larger point is that Margie is willing to sacrifice the United States’ status as a global superpower so she can engage in petulance that results in two weaker countries. Is the GQP platform now “weaken ourselves to own the libs”? Doesn’t sound like “America First” to me!

And if you subtract out Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Nashville, Memphis, Charlotte, Charleston, Huntsville, Des Moines, Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnatti, Boise, etc.? That’s probably close to another 50 million people in those “Red” states who want nothing to do with it.
