Minneapolis ablaze after prosecutor suggests no crime was committed by cops who killed George Floyd

FTFY.

This can and does happen anywhere and everywhere in the US; the entire country is tainted by the racism baked into the very foundations.

Absolutely true. I’ve seen it across the country, in every city and state I stopped long enough in to get to know.

Nothing says “let’s put racial, cultural, economic and institutional divisions behind us to move forward toward a mutually respectful state of healing” like speaking at a Trump rally. (Yeah I know this was from October but these are the people we’re dealing with.)

What the actual fuck.

They don’t even need to exit their vehicles to do it. (Pictured: local reporter’s footage of drive-by tear gas attack against nonviolent protesters)

Good sweet Christ the distancing language on this lede is out of control.

As if he is a faraway alien and his death is inconsequential. SMH. It was straight up cold-blooded, brutal murder. On camera. With people standing around. A man pleading for his life.

The OTHERING that Americans have mastered will be our undoing.

The umbrella is standard among the Hong Kong protesters. The cop looks like he googled “Protester” and dressed up as the first thing he saw.

While that’s true, that quote is from a Canadian news source.

I gotta say I have no idea why anyone thinks “just a few bad apples” is any kind of defense. “one bad apple spoils the bunch” is the phrase, and it means that “bad apples” should be removed as soon as they are found, not protected and nurtured.

Thanks. I tried to explain my point but failed. Steroids/coke abuse don’t make racists or assholes, they can however turn them into extremely violent or even murderous ones, as they can do to normal people. I saw on a very good friend of me what years of snorting coke did to his brain; no way in the hell someone in those condition should be allowed to wear an uniform or carry a gun.
Someone thought I was dismissing racism. No way I’d do that: my country has been ruined by fascists, then occupied by the nazi, and my older relatives pictured me what those bastards are capable of well before I could meet their modern instances. The steroids/drugs abuse by the police is a different tangential problem that can only render all other LE problems much worse. Drug/steroids tests should be mandatory for LEOs.

Deadly racist violence by American police forces has been around a lot longer than the widespread use of steroids or cocaine.

I think this is the first Mastodon link I’ve seen in the wild. It’s really beginning to catch on, isn’t it? Maybe now that Trump is burning down Twitter there’s a chance or reaching critical mass.

We have photo documentation of racist police violence going back almost as far as the history of photography itself. The only reason it seems to be worse today is the number of cameras and distribution platforms. It’s a disease that’s been festering in the country’s bones from the start. (I know you don’t need me to tell you this, just venting)

"When one group of people is oppressed we are all oppressed" is a great quote that might feel good to say, but it sure ain’t the reality of life in America today: my pale skin would keep me from getting the harsh treatment the average dark-skinned citizen would typically get in the same situation.

The virulent anti-crime attitude of the last 50 years, politicians calling for “more cops on our streets” is partly to blame, but even that was driven by racism. Maybe it’s time we had fewer cops on the street, considering crime rates have been dropping since the early 90’s. Just a thought.
