Minneapolis ablaze after prosecutor suggests no crime was committed by cops who killed George Floyd

I concur.

It’s not happening more; it’s just being recorded and documented more.

And even with ever more undeniable evidence, we still have people in denial.

no no. Those are just veterans who are experiencing PTSD. Because all of us that served are racist assholes in our civilian lives

No blood or violence, so the news isn’t interested.

I’m perhaps the wrong metric to use for judging Mastodon adoption by, since I’ve been using it for a couple of years now. The instance I’m on is much heavier with leftist folks than the flagship, though, so I’m also probably getting a lot more news than I would be on mastodon.social itself.

Setting aside for a moment that systematic racism is a much broader and deeper problem than individual cops having a bad roid day.

Do you have any evidence that this particular cop is on steroids? As in have you seen his medical records and are you a doctor that is qualified to discuss his physical and mental state?

If no, then you are making assumptions about his mental state. This is against the rules here because we can all assume and make up whatever we want about his mental state to further our personal agendas.

We should stick to the facts that he murdered an unarmed, hand-cuffed man on video and was not arrested and that this is a pattern seen repeatedly by cops against POC.

ETA: Roid abuse is a bad thing regardless of a persons occupation. If you would like to discuss how steroid abuse is bad then go create a thread about that. But inserting it in this topic only servers to derail this topic.

I do not have any evidence of any drugs use about that one or other cops. My speculation comes from the fact that a LEO in full mental abilities would never abuse his power to the point of killing an unarmed person who is clearly asking for help. That cop lost completely control and his perception of reality around him; someone was dying because of his actions and although he had time to stop, he didn’t. There would be enough to call him a psychopath (lack of empathy can be a revealing sign) even without speculating about drugs abuse.
Rather than bickering about what can or cannot be written (as I previously wrote, it’s all fantasies, ponies and fairies from my side) I would push for more attention to this problem; in many countries where there’s no such thing as white cops bullying black people, they still have white cops abusing white citizens. Racism here is an issue on top of another issue, not the only issue.

Ah, see, that’s where you’d be wrong.

Agreed, I’m sorry I did not choose my words more carefully.

Though I do think people who are interested in white supremacy often join the military. So to be clear my thinking is: someone has toxic views, joins an organization that gives them weapons training and conditions them to kill (something without training, people are actually quite reluctant to do), then that combination of being drawn to policing, veteran’s preference, and being disincentivized to seek help come together to exacerbate these issues.

(Not all mentally ill people are racist, but I would argue someone who is racist to the point of wanting to kill and harm others and violate the law is “disturbed”, if not in a DSM sense, in the sense of differing from the norm in a dangerous, bad way).

I hope this makes sense and again, sorry if my wording previously offended anyone. I did not mean to generalize or cast aspersions on otherwise kind/productive and/or peaceful members of society.

Is this your first time visiting our planet?

Did you watch the video of George Floyd’s murder? There was no rage there. The cop was completely under control. It was cold, calm murder. He was smirking at the people filming him as George Floyd went still.

When I was in high school I had a job watering the hanging planters on the downtown lamp posts. One day I was on the top of my ladder as two huge body builders walked out of the market I was in front of.

As they exited they were talking and laughing. They were so wide that as they went through the doors one of them bumped the other in the shoulder. The one bumped suddenly turned and punched the other guy in the chest. They both suddenly grappled, fell on the sidewalk and rolled around screaming kicking, scratching, flailing. It would have been funny if they were not both so freaking strong. After a few minutes they slowed down. Then got up. It had been feral and mindless. I’m sure these two guys could both fight but in that few moments they were like nerds fighting.

When they got up they looked stunned and bewildered. They kind of shoulder slapped each other and laughed and then walked away together.

I can’t know know for certain if that was a roid rage or some sort of performance art but it was certainly not like the behavior of this cop and his co-workers as they slowly, calmly, methodically worked together to murder a bound and subdued man.

I need to mention Crispus Attucks.

No, it’s not a photo, and it’s not a rebuttal to what you wrote. It’s a point that needs to be made in parallel.

“The press” has been whitewashing since day 1. Police violence, or violence by authorities directed at non-whites is older than America.

It took some 85 years before he was even portrayed.

Here is the original Revere engraving. Which guy is he? The one in the middle with the blue pants and brown jacket? The one being carried? The one with a yellow face upside down and on the left? I don’t know.

It wasn’t until 1855 that he was actually drawn.

“Any potential intoxicants”. Says the coroner, who would ideally know what those would potentially have been. “He did this to himself by having an underlying medical condition”, he seemed to say. It’s definitely not the fault of the officer who knelt on his neck, it’s his own fault for not taking better care of himself before an officer decided to violently arrest him.

Smells like horse pig shit.
