Morrissey just published a scathing open letter to Johnny Marr: "Stop using my name as click-bait"

As a UKite, I would go with dick, bell-end, knob-head, cock, or penis.

I can heartily recommend “giant Yorkshire pudding full of balti”.

Edit: “of” for “for”

I’ve always thought that the Smiths’ output was supposed to be viewed as satirical. I was always surprised when people called their songs “miserable”.

That sounds fantastic. Might try that tomorrow.

I realize this now (or at least in feel like I’m in on the joke assuming there is one) but for the 15 year old version of me this was Super Serious Stuff.

Don’t forget the songs that made you cry
Don’t forget the songs that saved your life
The story of Morrissey as one of the great super influencers of our times cannot be undermined by those that wish to block his message to the world: 1. animal rights/veganism as a political stance. For 40 years his plea for humanity has remained the same…
History & time has proven him correct as millions more people have made better choices towards vegetarian/vegan diets.
2. Singer/poet/lyricist - unmatched in his generation
3. Humorist - witty, intelligent & absurd
The primary focus on Moz should be about his great contributions to the world & NOT what the victimized haters of the social media smear campaign think…

Lol I remember NOT CARING if most people weren’t into them, fine by me! You’re right The Smiths aren’t for everyone. Hating on Morrissey isn’t new either. He’s used to being hated & adored. Morrissey really annoys those that love to be really annoyed.

he uses weird tunings

even if we can figure them out, playing music with them is like learning a whole new instrument

Are you demanding that we ignore that he’s a raging, racist, xenophobic shithead because he had some good songs in the '80’s?

I used to like Morrissey… then it became clear that he was not a bigoted asshole…

Apparently, writing a few good lyrics is more important that xenophobia that has a direct material impact on the lives of others… because… reasons?

That’s the problem with psychoanalysis and projecting one’s own biases on others - sometimes a pathetic dick is just a pathetic dick.

There is no prize in that box o’ crap.

He does plenty well at smearing himself with shit, no need for a social media campaign. What you call haters are simply people pointing out what a BNP supporting asshole he is.

There are plenty of people in this thread who have shared that his music was emotionally important to them growing up (or even still is) but who are still mature enough to separate that from the person. You should try it. There’s no shame and no harm in admitting that something that is important to you is not 100% in line with your values, even if it helped shape these values.

Perhaps @DH_Saunders’ own (apparently never-ending) adolescent angst included distress about PoC taking over Britain from white people.

If I was going to stand up for a talented vegan member of a band that was important to me in my '80s youth, I’d choose the one who wasn’t an outspoken racist, didn’t support Brexit, and the one who didn’t claim that some women make rape accusations out of petty “disappointment”.

for me, the smiths never sounded better than when they did songs that didn’t sound anything like the smiths. the best example of the phenomenon was this–

the video spends very little time on the band and that beautiful industrial footage they intercut is lovely.
