Mr. Clinton was a fixture around the Ann Arbor area until about a decade ago, when he “retired” to Florida. Anyone going to see him solo was likely very chill, and the show you went to was quite possibly St. Andrew’s or Shelter. IMO, both were great places to see a band.
[edt] just saw your other comment. Windsor, Ontario = South Detroit, for all you Journey fans out there.
Yup. I very much miss the days when you didn’t even need a passport to cross the border. One of my favourite shows was seeing Juan Atkins, Plasticman and others (can’t recall names) in the old Packerd plant in the twilight of the underground rave scene. I miss Detroit!
Noice! I was too new at the end of the rave scene to ever get in on anything at the Packard plant!
Not sure if this could be inspiring or depressing to you, but the whole area around the old plant has been redeveloping. People leisurely jog and bike any day of the week in New Center now.
I had a friend of a friend situation with Richie (plasticman) and he had a series of very elaborate instruction/directions to get in. Its growing notoriety/popularity was what killed it. Police just looked for stupidly parked cars, or followed waves of oblivious rave kids straight to the site and shut it down.
I worry about gentrification, obviously. Last time I was over there the urban farming was just starting. I thought it was an interesting first step towards something new for lllloooooooooooonnnngg suffering Detroit and its good people. Sadly, I’m just not as connected to that side of the river anymore. To better times!
Lord and baby jebus! Police intercepted another convoy from Ottawa likely headed to the bridge. It’s well past time to stop believing that “fringe minority” is a synonym of harmless, inconsequential or something we can ignore until it goes away.
Also… I had a professor at the U of W who (If I remember correctly)lived in that area. Even after such prolonged neglect there are still fragments of the stunning architecture from Detroit’s glory days.
