Mysterious Georgia Guidestones were partially destroyed in a bombing

Im wondering if someone was targeting the time capsule buried on one side of the guidestones. It has an (apparently intentionally) absent open-by date on it.

But fucking with it is still (yet another) attack on civility.

Same as it ever was, frankly.

For me it’s more that everybody involved seems to have crappy motives.

The guy who put it up was a racist & eugenicist diddling money away for some sort of vanity project that would have been forgotten in 100 years if this hadn’t happened (this probably just moved the timetable up) The person or people who blew it up are presumably christofascists.

Haha, yah- we literally know everything about them. Who made them, who paid for them, what they say, why they are there, when they were installed and by whom, and even the type of stone and where it came from. There’s not a single mysterious thing about them. Perhaps “weird” is the word all these reporters are looking for.

I guess Kandiss Taylor wasn’t the only Q-bert follower who had a problem with the stones. Of all the things q-batshittery would inspire people to blow up, that was probably the least-worst possible thing. Unfortunately they almost certainly won’t stop there.

Destroying rock won’t be enough. I’ll bet that people will not be far off.

That isn’t like a security or live stream camera? If it is, does it show being set up?

Anyway - pretty crazy stuff. I thought they were partly neat for being a modern monument, but also a little creepy due to the whole “reproduce wisely” thing and having a very low world population number.

They news article said there were still explosives on scene? Going to keep an eye this to see if they find anyone.

“Mysterious” keeps some viewers from changing the channel.

I don’t believe that the use of an explosive device (one powerful enough to kill people) falls under “political vandalism”.

In a similar vein…

I’ll thank you to not slander Qbert like that, if you please.

And now they’re completely leveled and are being removed.

Where is the evidence that that guy built the Guidestones? the link offers no evidence for the claim.

Presumably, they decided that it was no longer stable enough to allow people to be around it.

The full John Oliver video has other details about why it’s likely he’s the guy who commissioned it. Either way, the lines about keeping the population at a certain number and about breeding are straight up eugenicist nonsense, whoever commissioned this.

The guy who got the commission and gave the quote from the granite company knew the name of the guy who wrote the check and communicated it back and forth. And then that was revealed on a documentary awhile ago.

The MAGA whack job candidate for Governor in Georgia described the monument as “Satanic” and said she’d have it destroyed if elected the day before the bombing happened, so yeah. Christo Fascist MAGA domestic terrorism.

Sic transit gloria, or something. It’s a little sad, in a way, but it’s also undeniable they were pretty sketchy.

Eager for news on that time capsule.

The only difference between “modern art project” and “ancient artifact and religious monument” is time.
