New COVID lockdown rules limit alcohol possession for certain Australians

And it bears repeating!

For the carnivores out there, a thin layer of Vegemite makes an excellent crust for a lamb roast.

This piece is so silly. Tyranny? LOL. Tyranny? What the?!?

The article makes it sound like Australia is some hellish fascist/socialist state. In truth as an Australian, it seem to me we have far more freedom and a far more equally distributed set of rights across our society that the US even though we don’t have a formal Bill of Rights.

We have an emergency health apparatus that is keeping millions of people free of Covid for as long as possible until the majority of us are vaccinated so that we can return to some form of normalcy without overloading our health system and without enduring massive losses of life and livelihood.

As a more general observation, and speaking as an Australian, It seems Australians are more concerned about the health and well-being of our mates and our families, rather than just our own selves.

Once our mates and our families are taken care of then we’ll think about our own rights, but we’ll put their health and well-being above ours.

We seem to pull together as one unit and we seem to have a more cohesive societal structure than our US brethren, where it’s every man for himself and I don’t care about my mates as long as I’m OK.

Personally I’ll forgo a bit of alcohol for a few weeks now so that I can party hard later, if it means my mates will not be infected and potentialy die from what I could be carrying in my body.

And for the strict vegetarians out there (not me, anymore), I’ve been told it’s a great source of certain vitamins and nutrients that might otherwise be hard to come by. B-12 was mentioned, iirc.

I must’ve been thinking of riboflavin. You know, when you’re vegan, the haters are always asking, “but where do you get your riboflavin?!?”

Riboflavin R us on 8th street? Or maybe Riboflavin depot? That’s on 8th too. Or maybe Bed, bath n Riboflavin. I guess that’s on 8th too. Yknow the old Riboflavin district?

The post also does not emphasize enough that Sky News is the locally-grown version of Fox News.

I never liked the way all the linens came pre-streaked with brown, nutritious smears. But glad you have an outlet handy.

That’s Australian for Fox News, mate.

Hint; there’s a vast difference between socialism and fascism - they are not the same thing, nor do they go ‘hand in hand.’

That said, it must be nice to live someplace where the government isn’t quite so corrupt that a huge segment of it is actively willing to let countless people die because of some self-serving agenda.

Also…

Welcome to BB.

Is there a source outside of the Murdoch propaganda machine for this?

Even when FOX/heraldsun/newscorpse/etc do report accurately what is and is not reported is carefully curated to push a certain set of viewpoints.

Its all Rupert Murdoch.

So I recently located to a tiny outback town (dustspeck) in Queensland not far from the NSW border. QLD is doing pretty well with Covid and of course the border has a police guard on it in these times, but out here - like most places in the state - masks are totally unknown - but you have to sign in everywhere - which is OK. Across the border in NSW things are way different with the virus getting away in Sydney, and even in prominent outback communities Covid-19 has managed to get a toehold, so its all I hear on NSW radio. Being a newbie I needed to hookup with the local health services as I miss a regular back treatment. I managed to get a booking in the next biggest town with a visiting (bloody good) masseur who just happened to be aboriginal. He travels all over this region of SW QLD and I asked him “How do you go with this Covid thing?” - thinking he would tell me about the vibe with his own community about getting vaccinated etc. Instead he talked about how early on in the pandemic his industry was among those that were completely shut down as part of early action to curb possible virus spread. I think he said he was not working for 3 months. But I had to smile when he said - “I wasn’t concerned - I had a roof over my head and a Vegemite sandwich every day - what is there to worry about”.
Bewdy mate.

This is not correct. Marmite is horrific, Vegimite is manna of the gods.

Second FUCK VEGEMITE!!
See above re Australian stereotypes.

Third LOVE AMANDA FUCKING PALMER
Would have been aware of Freddy Negro and the Fuck Fucks (as did George Clinton and the band back in the day)

Fourth BEER SANDWICH [HOLD THE BREAD]
This is as coherent insight into Australian drinking culture as much of the above.
Fred Negroes band the Fuck Fucks smash out the titular ditty with gusto (please don’t censor this post because I used Fred’s real name)
The video quality aint good but it matches a punk aesthetic:

As an Australian, how would you gauge this mediia outlet?

There might be an interesting story here that’s been twisted by right wing media for their own political purposes. But, as I’m not from Australia, I don’t know the political landscape.
