Did they also come in large groups shouting about how they weren’t breaking any federal laws, and accuse you of discrimination, if you didn’t serve them? (Seriously wondering.)

It was Canada, and more than twenty years ago, so a bit different environment. It was more sea lion-y. “Explain to me why? What is the problem? How are the bottom of my feet dirtier than the bottom of someone’s shoes?” A total inability to get that in a coffee shop there is often scalding liquid and broken glass, and that’s a liability for bare feet. There was a bare foot walkers club at the school, and some of them were quite militant.
