Ages ago, I saw a documentary about bathrooms and their history (pisstory?). Turns out humans had communal pissoirs until pretty recently.
English towns had a women’s wall, and a men’s wall, where families and neighbors would sit in the open, hanging their business ends over said walls, and empty themselves. It was a social thing - people would chat with each other whilst taking care of business.
I told a friend’s roommate about that after he’d embarrassed TF out of himself by walking in on me when I was in their bathroom. I told him it was fine as he closed the door behind him, and when he came back out of the BR, I acted like nothing had happened, and just told them about those English walls. He was no longer embarrassed, and they said they’d once again learned something amusing, weird, and interesting from their Christine.
