Parkland victim's dad says Kavanaugh walked away from him, wouldn't shake his hand today

So it’s more like when Carol Burnett would tug on her ear as a gesture to her Grandmother? Gotcha.

Right-wing trollies trying to spread a hoax that the OK symbol means white power? No, that’s pretty much the diametric opposite of Carol Burnett sharing a private OK with her grandmother. (Provided that the Snopes entry is correct, but it sounds exactly like the sort of crap alt-right internet trollies would try.)

I’m anti-Trump and pro Parkland movement, but I have to call this one like I see it. I don’t think that, after enduring a session of congressional hearing, that is is a huge break in protocol to not shake hands with a random dude that suddenly runs up to you. There are plenty of other reasons to oppose him that are not this superficial.

You thought it was OK when Michelle Obama was called a monkey?

I didn’t.

People can say what they want, and I will judge them for it. It’s been getting progressively worse, it seems to me.

i couldn’t tell from your phrasing whether you meant it was the president’s getting worse or those commenting on the presidents.

Perfect for a Trump SCOTUS pick based on some of the other gems he has been pushing into lifetime appointments in the judiciary.

Honestly I feel like that’s part of the downward spiral. Presidenta Clinton, Bush and Obama didn’t dive right into the cesspool with their critics at 2am on Twitter. At least it was one sided contumely.

But like I said, I keep thinking it can’t get worse, and then

From the article, it appears he was a “known”, not some random dude.

“Guttenberg replied, “Incorrect. I was here all day and introduced by Senator Feinstein. No security involved. He turned and walked away.””

“The rules” is Article 3, Section 1 of the Constitution. The amendment process is set forth in Article V.

I happen to agree with you that SCOTUS appointments should not be for life. How do we get started?

The year was 2013. Faced with a Republican minority in the Senate that was blocking many of President Obama’s federal judge appointments, Harry Reid made a bold move to end the filibuster for federal judicial nominees with the exception of the Supreme Court.

Not as though he wasn’t warned:

Senator Mitch McConnell stood on the Senate floor and issued a warning to the Democrats who then controlled the majority.

“I say to my friends on the other side of the aisle, you’ll regret this,” McConnell, then the minority leader, told them. “And you may regret it a lot sooner than you think.”

So the part he ended up regretting was not also ending the filibuster for Supreme Court nominees?

Amendment. I don’t think it’s likely to happen soon, just that it would be a good idea.

Is that a white power sign? Looks like the circle game to me…

And the ones that did get released were dropped literally the day before the hearing. The first thing the democrats did was try and get a postponement yesterday. Of course, they were ignored.

Also anti-Trump pro-Parkland movement here. But let’s look at the actual facts on this one (remember, those are important, right?):

After watching the video several times I noticed at no time did Kavanaugh pull his hand back, as mentioned in Guttenberg’s tweet. This is how I see the sequence of events:

As Kavanaugh rises from his chair a left arm extends outward. This is presumably the arm of the short guy with the earpiece, extended in a protective way to usher him out.

Right when Kavanaugh is fully standing, the left arm quickly pulls back, people look over, and Kavanaugh quickly stops, turns and looks back. I would guess all these movements are because of Guttenberg’s actions.

A second or two after Kavanaugh is fully stopped and turned, Guttenberg’s arm moves up and Guttenberg moves forward, arm extended and speaking.

While still speaking, but I think toward the end of his statement, the short guy with the earpiece moves quickly past Guttenberg and as soon as he’s fully in frame, Kavanaugh turns and they both move quickly away. Short guy probably said something about moving along to Kavanaugh as he approached him.

I would guess that in the short amount of time Kavanaugh had to process what Guttenberg was saying and then being ushered along, he probably didn’t really understand what had just happened. I also believe Guttenberg saw the series of events exactly as he described them.

What happened after that I don’t know. I also don’t know if Kavanaugh is a horrible, uncaring person. What I do know are the facts of this one little incident. Facts are important.

Now, here’s a little piece of fakery that hopefully will come true:

McConnell also pointed out that SCOTUS need not have 9 justices. He may regret taking this to the next level, and soon. I see a future court with some large number of young, progressive justices…

Are any Dems saying (publicly, officially) that it’s not right to appoint a Supreme Court justice so close to an election?

I really wish they would.

From what I gathered, it’s origins started as a troll/joke on 4-chan, but since then some racists are trying to co-opt the symbol.

It still is largely just the “OK” sign or the circle “game”. Or some times your hands just happen to be in a certain position when a photo is taken and doesn’t mean anything.

This one occupies a really weird space - I’ve read enough to get the feeling that white supremacists do use it for trolling, but the circle game had broad enough cultural currency before of that so that now it seems to straddle the two categories awkwardly. I know the circle game was featured on Malcom in the Middle in 2000, which predates 4chan by three years

I probably wouldn’t flash that sign around too much - i’m a pretty standard issue cis white dude with a fairly short haircut, and I wouldn’t want to be mistaken for a white supremacist. But if someone else does it I generally wouldn’t assume bad intent without more info.
