Police union threatens "surprise" for Quentin Tarantino

You didn’t answer my question. I’m still pretty sure that you’re suggesting that people break the law.

So you’re saying that even though we have over a century of precedence, our government is illegitimate and we should…roll back the law? You don’t actually say what you’re suggesting. You just sort of imply things…

No but if your solution to a union suggesting possible trouble (without actually saying they’re doing anything illegal) is illegal actions by various citizens, I do expect you to back it up a bit better. Sorry.

For my part, I’d like to see our system of governance actually, you know, work, rather than acting like we’re in an occupied nation. If you see national level corruption, I’d suggest you go to the authorities who are, in this instance, the FBI. They investigate organized crime and, historically, corruption of police forces beyond a certain level. That certainly seems more likely to work than expecting Joe Citizen to watergate the Police Union in order to plant spy devices and trackers. The latter sounds like fantasy and, frankly, unless you’re offering to start doing it personally, wishful thinking.

Of course, I do recognize that even though you live in the United States, use its infrastructure, live under the benefit of the things that taxes pay for including fire departments, road crews, and, actually, police, that you don’t recognize that you are within the United States or a part of it, no matter what your birth certificate or (one assumes) social security card says.

Or The Hooded Claw.

Well, who’s to say anything the police do is illegal? Sure, there are laws, and they say they apply to them, but in practice, they can do anything they want up to and including execute someone they don’t like, and they don’t get punished for it. They get a Time Out. Doesn’t that mean that anything they do is legal, no matter what the law of the land says?

Normally they might expect this to work, given his image(*). In this case they have publicly announced they are going to ‘surprise’ him. As soon as anything happens people will think he is being framed.

  • Actually, does he have a drug image?

Not as far as I know. I’m not sure what the original poster is drawing from. He has an image of being a loud mouth with opinions and maybe a jerk.

I am working at it!

Based upon what? I concede that it is possible, there is legislation about practically everything. But neither of us seem to have any specific statutes to refer to. Aren’t you usually the person who says “citation needed”? I can’t prove the negative that it isn’t.

More essentially, I am suggesting that people act ethically. It can be especially tricky when it is law enforcement itself which is suspect of corruption. If the more ethical choice has laws in place to make it difficult, then I would indeed suggest that people do what is ethical, rather than what is legal.

I imply things? You never cited any laws. I am not suggesting that government can’t or doesn’t work. I am saying that it is hands-on, the public is directly responsible for what the government does, and need to control it. Anything else is - literally - irresponsible.

I don’t deny that I could do better. But you often expect replies to your questions to come from a very specific angle. I feel that I might just not share enough assumptions to know quite what that angle is.

Maybe you buy into role-playing more than I do. If something is realistic or fantasy, I think this does not depend upon who is doing it. Quite the opposite, actually! Some people do it. If you do it, it’s real. If you don’t, it’s wishful thinking. This applies to all activities and people. I explained to you before that I am egalitarian, so it should not be surprising that me needing a stiffer burden of proof than others who are doing the same thing is unconvincing, and a bit offensive. I see it as not a matter of roles, but rather of functions. You are what you do. Government officials have explicit roles because we assign them to these. But citizens at large have no such roles, and so do not operate under those limitations.

Who says I do any of those things? Presume much? Also, it is rather loaded to call services automatically a benefit if they are not desired - or even outright refused. Hell, you could use the same perspective to justify rape.

Getting people to not centralize their records such as births, marriages, deaths, etc has been one my most strategic issues.

Ah, so you’re not within the boundaries of the United States? Ok. Well, I guess you don’t need to worry about what a US based entity, the police union, is up to then, or any other American politics. Thanks for clearing that up.

I am infiltrating it. I am only a citizen on the condition that the country follows its own rules.

As much as life would be easier if I was capable of unconditional loyalty, I have had to suppress the expression of my canine genes. Cognitive therapy, don’t you know!

He seems kind of coked-up all the time, but I’m thinking that’s just his natural personality.

popo lives in a suburb in Connecticut. If you realize the arguments are coming from youth and privilege, they make much more sense (and are easier to ignore).

I’m not so sure about that “youth” part tho…

I know that it is relative, but I wouldn’t exactly call being in my forties “youth”, nor living in a squat without any use of money “privilege”. Also, FWIW I am not from Connecticut. It is easily my least favorite place where I have lived. Using my current address as an excuse to dismiss my opinions on anything is rather shitty.

According to your own arguments, you are living the dream you think everyone else should be wanting as well, and besides, you could do something to change your reality if you don’t like it so why haven’t you?

Really, the schtick was cute at first, but it gets tedious after a while. Your arguments sound like they’re coming from someone who hasn’t had a lot of responsibility but has had a decent amount of education and privilege and thus can opine on theoretical matters all day long. Try joining the rest of us in the real world, and see if you might even learn something from someone else instead of feeling the need to instruct everyone on how they’re doing it wrong.
