Political fall out from Covid-19 pandemic

Well, she is wearing a mask. Several masks. I was afraid to count them. She is not making the point she thinks she is!

Because it’s going to be super-easy to enforce the change back, when the temporary measures end (Spoiler: it won’t).

In case that sounds okay to you:

In my case it’s not anaphylaxis, but some ubiquitous ingredients can mess me up bad. Like apple, which gets added as a cheap sweetener in just about everything. Other people, this could kill.

Speaking of temporary measures, in Oz:

That’s entirely unnecessary to “roll back” and you’re right that people are going to get hurt or will die.

i think that cartoon seems to be making the argument that coronavirus is a small problem compared to the economy - that’s the gop’s argument and it’s wrong.

it’s not the recession or the slowed economy that’s problem. it’s the wealth extraction. and it’s that same issue that’s causing our inability to tackle climate change.

there’s no way ( is there? ) that the recession will cost the number of lives that coronavirus is costing. long term climate change definitely will.

eta: at least according to this paper, the answer is, counterintuitively, recessions are associated with increasing life expectancy.

Population health did not decline and indeed generally improved during the 4 years of the Great Depression, 1930–1933, with mortality decreasing for almost all ages, and life expectancy increasing by several years in males, females, whites, and nonwhites.

i’m sure quality of life went down, still i think the people who fear recession the most right now are those above the wealth gap not those below it

“Democrat Governor Roy Cooper is still in Shutdown mood & unable to guarantee that by August we will be allowed full attendance in the Arena,” the president wrote on Twitter. “In other words, we would be spending millions of dollars building the Arena to a very high standard without even knowing if the Democrat Governor would allow the Republican Party to fully occupy the space.”

Wherever they hold the Masque of the Republican Death, it’s going to end up killing a lot of people, and not just Trump supporters. (Trump himself will probably be screened from random contact.)

There is a vengeful, bloodthirsty side of me that I am not proud of, that says “go ahead, you older, more likely to have chronic health problems Republican assholes, have your mass gathering and die from the disease you refuse to accept as real.” But then the rational side steps in and points out how many innocent others they would take down with them. Not that I have any say in it, of course, but I pray this governor stays the course.

All those people jammed in for a rubberstamp rally, and then they’ll go back home without quarantining. It’s almost like they want to kick the pandemic into a higher gear before November.

All the easier to “postpone” the election?

You are not the only one. I’ve found myself harboring really vicious attitudes towards the “salt of the Earth” Trumpist crowd, and I’m not even American myself. Times like these give the nastier, vengeful side of ourselves plenty of encouragement, sadly.

I’ve gone past that part of the marathon and am now settled into the stretch where the thinking is: they’ve already PROUDLY caused the death of 100K in this country, and that’s probably only a tiny percentage of the ultimate total, so if through their own hateful actions they end up killing off enough of themselves to make it possible for decent Americans to take back the country…hey, I’m good with that.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Pick your source for your information on how insulting Dominic Cummings is to British people. Pick your outrage: I behaved responsibly and legally is a kick in the face to the hundreds of thousands of people who have had family die (many of them due to that scumbag’s bad advice) without being able to hug them; the family saying they were grieving an uncle is worse; that the criminal is breaking the rules by even giving the press conference; that he undertook his typhoid Mary journey while convinced he had the disease and he and his colleagues seem to be superspredders… Oh look if you unpick it, it is endleasly full of awful shit from a bunch of pretty much Nazi sociopaths.

But honestly, the chef’s kiss is “i drove 40k to a local beauty spot/Castle with 2 passengers to test my eyes”. I mean saying ANY OLD SHIT that makes absolutely no sense when you are killing thousands is surely the ballsy move.

Fortunately for him the Tory cabinet is dominates by incompetent nonentities and some very high profile sociopaths. Some of the incompetents are sociopaths too.

I know lots of people in Ireland are enjoying the free entertainment but fuck that, I have family and friends having to live through this.

NC is currently polling as a toss up; anything Donnie does to suppress his own vote there is appreciated. Thanks, sucker!
