OK, so the latest twist to this stupid drama is that while both Willie and Jerry Brown deny ever experiencing any kind of unusual helicopter ride with Donald Trump, a different, unrelated Black politician from California says they once had a harrowing helicopter ride together.
So the best guess is a combination of Trump’s normal aggrandizement mixed with ongoing cognitive decline and a big dollop of casual racism.
“Willie is the short Black guy living in San Francisco,” Holden said. “I’m a tall Black guy living in Los Angeles.
“I guess we all look alike,” Holden told POLITICO, letting out a loud laugh.

More details in Trump’s helicopter story. Trump’s apologists will probably try to say this vindicates Trump because it shows he didn’t imagine the incident entirely, but really it just makes him look even more racist than the original telling of the story did and had nothing whatsoever to do with Kamala Harris.
Res told Politico on Friday that Trump liked to say that Holden “tuned white.” But Holden said it was Trump who was really afraid.
“He was white as snow,” said Holden. “And he was scared s—less.”

There never was really going to be a lawsuit, obviously. Even Trump would have trouble finding a lawyer dumb enough to sue the New York Times for accurately reporting Willie Brown’s denials about riding in a helicopter with Donald Trump.

I think it was the press that speculated Trump was mixing those two up when they were trying to figure out what the hell Trump was talking about since Trump did actually take a helicopter ride with Jerry Brown once.
The actual explanation now appears to be a different, unrelated helicopter ride with Nate Holden.

Never mind the taint behind that whole story.
Trump was trying to develop real estate in Los Angeles. He flew the State Senator for that district out to NY and then took him on a helicopter ride to his Atlantic City casino, ostensibly to curry favor by showing him a good time.
If I did that shit in my job (especially with a government official), that’d be called bribery and corruption. I’d likely be fired.
