I know the Tories have people who are competent and effective, but they aren’t trying to be competent and effective at anything we would actually want.
You don’t ask a demolitions expert to restore historical buildings.

If it’s any consolation, I grew up in West Cornwall where the Conservative party has the likes of Derek Thomas (too dumb to even get the most junior of government positions in this government) and George Eustice (the elusive missing link between vegetable and mineral) as their representatives.
It must be something in the water. And by something I mean a heady mix of arsenic, lead, uranium and radon.

He is my constituency MP and he has never been of any use whatosever. A Eurosceptic Johnson apologist / defender. His only saving grace (probably not being anti-trans, aside) is that he will be standing down at the next election.
I think a lot of new MPs would lose their seats if there was another election soon, particularly those in the North who got elected because of the spoiling run by the Brexity party or whatever they were calling themselves at the time which ate the Labour majority in a stack of constituencies.
The NI protocol works fine - Northern Ireland is doing well economically because of it. It’s also popular with the majority of the people, businesses, and farmers. Unfortunately it was de Pfeiffel who completely broke his word to the DUP and he has been boosting their nonsensical, economically and legally illiterate, xenophobia ever since. War in Ireland is a small price to pay to cling onto power for another couple of years.

Looking for a good Tory MP is an exercise in futility. I’m simply looking at who I am most likely to survive becoming PM. I wouldn’t put it past most of the Tories to introduce re-education camps for trans people, especially after their excuses for not having a full conversion therapy ban.
But who am I kidding? Everyone who has been suggested as the next Tory PM is a complete bastard.
