"Qanon Karen" who destroyed mask display at Target and lost her business is now very sorry

And the lack of what we in the sport call “nasal nudibranchs”.

Melissa Rein Lively is currently making a big career as an ex-Qanon believer. She’s even giving interviews for German TV stations and newspapers.

Honestly, I would rather err on the side of believing people when they apologize, especially if they try and put some effort into it. Sure, this isn’t perfect, but people aren’t, and certainly a lot of her stuff is pretty straightforward and she’s openly rejecting the QAnon stuff, which is the important thing.

Multiple, repeated problems that they keep fake-apologizing for? That’s a personal decision people get to make; but my default stance is that people should be forgiven.

Plenty of desperate, lonely, scared people searching for answers don’t get sucked into cults. You got sucked in QAnon because you liked the snake oil they were selling.

I hope Lively gets the mental health care she needs, but she can shove right off with that excuse. And no one “cancelled” her. They declined to do business with her.

Somebody in my mental capacity,…
Now that she’s found a balance, through medication and therapy…

The rules of this sub prevent me from elaborating, so I’ll leave her to speak for herself.

If that’s the case, I hope she gets on the right meds to help get her life back on track. I often take pleasure in poking fun at Trump supporters but bipolar disorder is serious business.

I’m all for forgiveness and 2nd chances, assuming someone has done everything (and more) to make amends. I don’t see any evidence of that in this interview. I just see something, a PR expert at that, saying what she needs to. Ok, so she apologized to a few people. Did you donate her time anywhere relevant to the issue? Did you go to Target and make an apology directly to all the people she put through that bullshit?

Look, regardless of the purity of her motive, at least she has (possibly) stopped pushing the qanon crap. The more people move away from that mess, the weaker it becomes.

It’s a cult. And should be treated as such. Many QAnoners will need literal deprogramming to return to something even resembling their former selves. Most will not go through this process.

Exactly!!

So, why does she get to go on TV to make a public apology?

Dare I say, privilege?

Protip: if you say you were ‘canceled’ you’re not actually sorry.

From wishing I were the ‘other’ Lively (not Blake, but somehow first next) and the prospects of grinding in publicity, it is like I am in the wagon ruts of giants. I can see the myself as linen scrubs, one step away from disintegration.

Yup. Someone who had truly recognized accountability wouldn’t be using the NYT passive, third-person voice style guide.

Reminds me of my favorite headline of 2015, “Ben Carson Defends Himself Against Allegations That He Never Attempted to Murder a Child”.

There’s a philosophical question as to whether PR flacks are truly capable of lying, or merely of engaging in deceptive signalling, since there are real questions as to whether they have the concept of truth required to lie; but regardless of where you come down on that issue would you trust one?

If QAnon can be treated with medications, any speculation as to which meds have proven effective? Thorazine? Lithium? Bath salts?

the whole point of Q is to break American unity, make people distrustful of gov’t, and make Q believers so angry that they will act out. It obviously works.

You weren’t ‘canceled’. You did this to yourself & refuse to acknowledge it.
Maybe it’s time to take Personal Responibility & Pull Yourself Up By Your Own Bootstraps, etc.
Or don’t your own rules apply to yourself?

Rhetorical question, I know…

But it’s literally about Donald Trump saving us from the Democrats and Celebrities and Hillary Clinton kidnapping and eating babies in ritualistic fashion. Who else is down with this? I wanna see that Venn Diagram.
