Hamster, why don’t you pull a Spenser and quit…?

I’ll take Ahistorical Nonsense for 350 Million, Alex.

hey now… Antifa is clearly ahead in “just violence”. There’s nothing just about the violence of the alt right or nazis.

To get back to Doctorow: “Elements of the left say that antifa tactics – direct, physical confrontations with fascists and racists – are a ‘gift to the alt-right’”.

I’m arguing that history shows this to be the case – and what Spencer is doing now is making “the left” into a kind of boogeyman. What doesn’t help is the violent actions of antifa, because now he’s leveraging that to play victim.

I’m arguing for a pragmatic political approach, and that means holding people to account who commit violence. Any movement that will be effective in the long run should be focused on: non-violence, grassroots, local activity, dialogue with friends/family/neighbors, and using the structures of the law to their fullest.

I’m arguing this from the perspective of the history of the rise of the Nazis within Germany, and how political violence and yes, even censorship efforts, backfired. It does NOT mean we don’t resist, it means it matters very much how we chooseto resist.

No, I gave you plenty of clues so that you can Google it.

The reason for it is that if people aren’t willing to look it up, I’ve found they aren’t willing to read what you’ve sent them (at least not honestly), and they don’t really want to engage with me.

Burning Cars.

What the fuck are you even talking about? How did you get from A to B? I’m imagining you with a whiteboard and a gram of coke.

Oh good God.

MAIN. STREAM.

OF COURSE there were Nazis all over the place.

Are we goosestepping in the UK right now?

That is an infamous column by the original owner of the Daily Mail in his own newspaper. How much more mainstream do you want?

That’s wartime. For example.

Do you want it to look like this WITHIN your own country?

How might we avoid that and still resist fascists?

That raises a valid point – but I think Ture overstates the fact that people don’t have a conscience.

Were that the case, slavery would still be legal.

We can be moved by reason. We can be moved by empathy.

Plus, in practical terms, we all know violence will occur – tempers will flare – so to keep the public from going into backlash, it’s both wise and pragmatic to advocate non-violence.
