Mass hysteria and good old fashioned stupidity.

Well this is a terrifying advance of fascism.

“We are here to help children.”

The angry mob is clearly not there to help children. That’s for sure!

So, in short, things are working out as intended.

Single-issue extremists have been blocking the normal work of school boards at least since I was a kid in the '60s listening to my teacher parents griping about the senile old members who would interrupt discussions of playground planning to blurt out “No sex education!” and drift back to wherever they were wandering.

Make the rules the same as kindergarten. Lose your temper or misbehave and you will be escorted to the corner for police enforced quiet time - while everyone in the room watches. Three disruptions and you will be sent home with a note to your mother.

And then your mother will sue the Dairy Queen and the Supreme Court will rule that pissing on counters to protest mask wearing is protected speech.

Our local school board, a national flashpoint often in the news, partially solved this by eliminating audiences at meetings. Everyone has to wait outside with a video feed and they can only come in to present to the council one at a time, without the raucous backing of their peers. Seems to have helped tamp, or at least displace the rage some.

That’s an awfully charitable way to describe me getting angry about something and taking it out on everyone I see! (I’ll try to link this pissing incident to consuming horse poison in the near future, I promise)

Let me know when the follow-up is out (or maybe better don’t … I am really not sure anymore, whether I should keep track of these incidents or not).

makes you more likely to comment, makes me more likely to heart you into ‘nice reply’ status!

That sounds good. I could see also, if things keep getting out of hand, people submit their statements in writing, and those are read to the board by a designated party (kind of like a bailiff, or something).
Because that group watching the feed can still rile themselves up to harass people in the parking lot…

Not to mention the advance of bad spelling and grammar. Which already seems to be underway in districts where sado-populist morans (sic) have hijacked the school boards.

This is just sad. We’re not going to pull out of this nosedive, are we?

Not if we don’t proactively try, no, we won’t.

First, they came for the Public Health Officers, then they came for the School Board Members.

Here’s just one example of the fascists’ tactics playing out in real time: a Dallas-area school’s first Black principal has just been put on administrative leave after a bunch of angry parents stormed a school board meeting accusing him of teaching Critical Race Theory.

We really are going to have to speed up the Mars Colony thing. At this point I don’t really mind which faction emigrates. Though I’d marginally prefer, due to said rush, the others.

Fuck that. How about we speed dealing with the issues in our society instead of letting some small fraction of humanity abandon the rest of us to our fate?
