School boards were a flawed concept from the get go and this is just a wider manipulation of narrow local elections by wealthy Republican donors based on the success of religious takeovers in more insular areas. It’s why advocate groups have been traveling the country to yell at school boards, why right wing opinion column writers are at their local school boards, and it’s the same playbook as suing college campuses for being government institutions limiting speech based on the Westboro Baptist church.
We have major glaring flaws in our public systems that people want to overlook based on feel good sophistry. Meanwhile other people are spending millions to enrich themselves because enraging dumb white people is cheap and can bully the political will they need for their cheap buck into existence.
