the Prevost Le Mirage XL Marathon motor coach.

apparently the 267,000 his friend paid for it ( 100k more than thomas’ annual salary ) was a great deal. they start at a million, and people generally pay cash.

personally i think for a million dollars there could have been a few more words in that name

“prevost le mirage xl marathon deluxe el grande par excellence series ii”

something like that would be much classier.

A teensy tiny little (and possibly temporary) victory in the effort to enact just a little bit of regulation relating to guns:

i like that piece. a nice framing for considering how people make decisions, and why that matters for judges.

The result is a strong tendency for our decisionmaking to become distorted by a subconscious desire to pursue outcomes in keeping with our politics. Political scientists call this partisan-motivated reasoning. And when it comes to deciding major cases on divisive issues such as abortion, gun control, LGBTQ rights, and freedom of religion? It is hard to think of a more powerful force

Wild that 50 or so years ago the election of JFK was controversial because as a Catholic he’d be more loyal to the Pope than the USA, and now there’s a 2/3 Catholic majority on SCOTUS.

The problem is the right wing orientation of the Justices appointed, not their specific faith (which pushing the “anti-choice” rhetoric of some Catholics was a tactic adopted by Christian nationalists for a specific goal of ending women’s rights by weaponizing Catholic doctrine). More Catholics vote Democrat than GOP, but we are told that should focus on them instead of the real problem, which is white people, especially white men, who continue to vote for fascists.

This is the problem with ignoring nuance, instead embracing long-standing prejudice in American culture, such as an anti-catholic bias. The problem isn’t catholicism, but issues such as misogyny. THAT is the problem.

They just aren’t even trying to pretend to give a shit about standing or whether there is a Constitutional question at all anymore, are they?

Why would they give a shit anymore when everyone knows they are siding with the highest bidder without ANY repercussions?
