That’s “russian-defector-in-london-has-a-surprising-accident-with-polonium” territory.
The concept of “southerness” being synonymous with white supremacy erases the Black southern experience, which just happens to be one of the richest veins of culture in the US story
I believe Portland and Portland to be the same latitude, so I’m gonna have to say no, it is not southern, but yes, very white and very racist
Interview of man with gun. https://youtu.be/mjtTtPTbRXM
There is nothing in the story of these 2 people threatening demonstrators with guns that is at all dependent on the differences between Southern, Midwestern, Western, or North Eastern flavors of white supremacy. Its only pretending there aren’t differences when the differences are relevant. Here its just recognizing this is a story about Anywhere, U.S.A
It should also be noted that Tamir Rice was empty-handed when he was killed; the toy gun was tucked under his shirt. These two maniacs, on the other hand, were actively pointing real guns at unarmed people and the lady clearly had her finger on the trigger. Sickening.
I’m sad to say the racism doesn’t stop at the border.
She’s holding what appears to be a SIG P238. As other have mentioned, the way she’s holding it and has her finger on the trigger are both wrong on several levels.
It would be nice if folks would stay focused on the threat these people pose rather than what kinds of weapons they used to threaten unarmed protesters.
I guess I thought the threat was clear. I apologize if I’m distracting from the obvious.
The impressive part was how many times he managed to shoot himself in the back.
Mod note:
1 - because this was clearly a firearms safety issue, discussions about how to safely handle firearms and the like are obviously on-topic, however
2 - the type of weapon used, unless it pertains to 1, is really not ontopic at all. “White lady unsafely points gun at black protestors” is the obvious set of issues here.
3 - Generalizing entire swaths of population by pointing out that this was in “the south” doesn’t really do much but point out the obvious - that historic hotbeds for racism are still hotbeds for racism, but that doesn’t somehow make it “ok” or “expected” (or bloody well shouldn’t), and more importantly, ignores the rampant racism evident in other parts of the country. Lets not go down that rabbit hole.
If they had any sense they would have greeted the protesters and handed out bottled water instead of coming out with guns. At worst, they might have heard some unfriendly comments about their opulent lifestyle but at least they wouldn’t have disgraced themselves in front of millions of people on the internet.
Is it “Ambulance Chasers Direct”.
Divine wears it better, obviously.
RIP
I remember that one… and the hyper-realistic revolver cap-pistols that — even from a few feet away — could not be readily distinguished from the real-deals carried by the NYPD back then.
Infinitely true.
And replete with so much good art and music and food and poetry and writing and and and all the stuff that makes living on this planet worthwhile. I am grateful.
The fact that so much human pain is mixed with all that makes the existence of any of that nothing short of miraculous.
Wow …
“I really thought it was storming the Bastille, that we would be dead and the house would be burned and there was nothing we could do about it,” McCloskey said. “It was a huge and frightening crowd.”
And his claims about private property:
When asked if the protesters had trespassed on his personal property, McCloskey argued that the entire neighborhood was “private property,” therefore “being inside that gate is like being in my living room.”
I mean, the street isn’t decorated nearly as awfully as the inside of the house. He needs to get right on that.
