I see this interview as a proof that there is something very wrong with him. I mean on a medical level. With his brain. I mean I´m not a doctor but am I the only one who thinks that he shows early signs of dementia or alzheimers? There is something up with him, more than the shitshow we know from the campaign, something that renders him medically unfit for office.
I dunno. It could just be rage keeping him from thinking clearly. It’s clear he’s got issues, but it’s hard to say exactly what all of them are.
My guess that is he had pride in his department / people and did his best to wrap up loose ends responsibly before leaving. I feel sorry for State Dept workers right now. The same goes out to all Gov employees really. The article did say that “…all the officials had previously submitted their letters of resignation…” These are ambiguous times for sure.
I appreciate the sentiment, but if the right move for people of integrity is to resign, then will anyone with integrity stay? Not being American, I could easily be wrong about this, but isn’t one of the roles of the civil service to act as a source of institutional knowledge as a buffer against purely political decision-making?
You’re never too old to be called upon to fight for your own rights. Just because tanTrump can’t force you into pillaging for his companies doesn’t mean there might not be battles to fight.
Massive storms in the South?
I salute them for leaving, but I hope they will continue to make noise. We need them.
So say we all!
Sure why not? As soon asanother Katrina happens heads will roll.
Or, “We don’t want to be on the wrong side of the courtroom when the war crime trials begin.”
I wish I had more details about their requirement to tender notice. For people of integrity who are free to quit on a moment’s notice I think the appropriate tactic would be to plan ahead:
(1) begin maximizing the bank account (no luxuries whatsoever)
(2) start asking around about new jobs, maybe do some interviews
(3) decide what line you won’t cross and be prepared to quit immediately as soon as you are asked to cross that line.
That way you can do your best to maintain stability but not be complicit in abuse.
Let’s be honest here: their days were numbered anyway; right wing hatred of the State Department as a cesspit of commies is just too deep, and they were lined up to be purged anyway.
Are they fleeing a sinking ship? Or are they being forced out by a new predator species who can thrive in an drained swamp?
Now I want to see a photoshop of Drumpfs face on Goering at the Nürnberg trials.
I want to like your comment, because it is important news, and I’m glad you brought it up. But even under the regime where “Liking” something doesn’t necessary mean liking it, I can’t like that. I just can’t.
Personally I would have stuck around, pretended to be subservient, and quietly collected lots of damning stuff I could give to wikileaks.
This is disastrous. The state department is the sane branch of the foreign relations arm of government. They keep relations with other countries civil, vet people coming into USA, and look out for Americans abroad, all without bluster or guns. I would much rather their style of diplomacy than the CIA or the military’s. When the shit gets real they look for win win solutions rather then the fuck you style the orange dictator seems to prefer.
The world needs these people more than ever, but I can see that the orange dictator would not let them do their jobs. I don’t know what else they could do.
Plenty of Right Wingers in the State Department. Diplomatic Security is about as red meat as you can get. And the department extends far and wide to embassies and consulates around the globe.
the Doomsday Clock link was one of my fastest nice reply badges. it does feel strange to get liked for bad news, “kill the messenger” is much more common
Oh, certainly, but there’s still a popular perception alternate fact that the State Department is a hotbed of Communists, despite the lack of evidence for this.
