Nah, some of these have been people I have been following for a very long time, and have had progressive/pacifist views until now.
This is unsettling people in a way we haven’t seen before. Not just for the rights being revoked on the surface but for the slippery-slope fears.

You sure about that? Fascism is on the rise everywhere and I guarantee these guys don’t support abortion. It’s not about religion. It’s about controlling women. No democracy can rest on its laurels right now. Not Germany, and not Canada, even though we feel safer than the US for now.

I suspect its more along the lines of avoiding someone speaking out and giving the party bad press. They are in the middle of a leadership race and I don’t think any of them want their press events focusing on abortion (for good and bad reasons).
Thankfully a large proportion of Canadian conservatives are more middle of the spectrum and the party has done its best when it acknowledges that. I still have some optimism here.
Oh and on the main topic WTF! I have no sufficient words for the horrors the Republican party is inflicting on the people. I wish everyone there luck in this fight.

People said that shit to them, too. Alice Walker talked about it in one of her books. Just like racism is national, so is misogyny and transphobia, and homophobia. It exists in all corners of the country, and the goal for the current fascist GOP is not just “their” states, but the whole fucking country.

Nancy Pelosi is out campaigning for this guy today.
This is happening while Democrats control the House, the Senate and the White House. “We can’t govern even with a trifecta” is my line for supporting them. Giving them the trifecta was a mandate to keep their promises, but they care more about happy Republicans and made-up anti-democratic norms than you. The parliamentarian? Come on, man. All they’re going to do about this is send fundraising emails.

Aren’t I doing that right now? I’m certainly not running cover for them.
For the record, I don’t think leaving voicemails for an intern to delete is moving the needle. I’m happy to participate in more direct action. We need to stop asking and get into a position where we can start telling.
