I think the definition of marriage as being between one man and one women is right after Deuteronomy 21:15-17 where they lay down inheritance rules for men with multiple wives.

Biblical marriage is between one man and one woman, but men arenāt necessarily limited to one marriage. Or concubinage.
With the amount of war thatās described in the Bible and the practice of killing the males in a conquered city, there must have been a pretty significant difference between the male and female populations. By the early CE, this was probably much less pronounced.
Ahh I get it. Each marriage is separate. So Moses had two biblical marriages each one between one man and one woman simultaneously.

From what I can recall, they were pretty understated about it, but there were a fair number of references to Queen, the patron deity of roads, and a lot of temples devoted to Tim Horton, patron deity of doughnuts.

The persecution complex is another layer on top of things - it seems to be an important part of US Christian identity, some way of establishing continuity with the beginning of the faith. The whole history has been mythologized, too. The story that Nero burnt down Rome and blamed the Christians so he could persecute them? The reality seems to be that it was actually Christians who burnt down Rome. The Puritans came to America to escape persecution in England? They came here because they wanted to be free to persecute others. Etc. It does become especially hilarious when you try to claim persecution when youāre the (vast) majority, in control of the state. Fundies often claim theyāre being attacked by the media when itās actually just another flavor of Christian portraying their own faith, which differs from the Fundie version of āhow things ought to be.ā Theyād really like to be screaming āheresy,ā but that just doesnāt fly anymore.

Oddly I kind of like the phrase Rainbow Jihadist. Iām picturing a t-shirt with a rainbow coming out of some kind of vaguely phallic object and the phrase āRainbow Jihadist: Iām going to blow you upā on it. Or maybe, āIām going to make you explode.ā
Iām sure the homophobic terrorists will love their movement being associated with gay people too.

Actually, thereās a lot of debate among historical demographers, about sex-biased infanticide and neglect.
Of course, records were biased, but there seems to have been a tendency for Roman men in their twenties to marry girls in their teens, and if there were similar numbers of men in their twenties and girls in their teens, then there were a lot more men than womyn.

If you ask me, Iād wish that religious groups with progressive views also had progressive spines and progressive guts.
Having a strongly held belief in the humanity and equality of minorities is pointless, if youāre not going to stand with them and call the hateful bigots what they are to their faces.
