Thank you for reminding me of all those times Obummer joked about his tsunami, earthquake, and volcano control buttons in the weeks before such manmade disasters, and when the alerts specific to them were falsely issued.
That was the lowpoint of his presidency, that volcano erupting joke the week before the false volcano warning.
You’re right, Trump has nothing to do with the terror felt by the Hawaiian people over this, They’re obviously just fools and to blame, themselves.
By pointing out it’s a statewide EMA system that also covers other disasters, you’re identifying responsible parties other than the one with the big mouth who created the current environment as regards the context of incoming ballistic missiles - and that’s the point.
If one of those alerts went off for a WILDFIRE, and you looked outside and it was raining, you’d be a fool to take the alert at face value. It isn’t ‘raining’. We have a shithole president.
So, excuse me, but what you did there by changing the subject to the minutia of unrelated technicalities… , and what defending Trump reads like, overlapped.
I’ll avoid addressing your intent, as it’s also not the point.
This is on Trump. Not the state EMA. their mistake, his error.
That’s a pretty charming rebuttal after the fact but if one were in the position of getting the alert, I wonder if one would have a different response. You’re kind of on the edge of being a target for /r/iamverysmart
In the post you’re responding to, I already said that a nuclear alert wouldn’t have been taken as seriously without Trump’s brinksmanship. You are putting words in my mouth that I never said, because the people you’re really angry at aren’t here and you need a proxy for your anger.
Absurd the " Fake News " keeps reporting in their loop “an employee mistakenly pressed the wrong button during shift change.”
Sure, they pressed the wrong button and left to go home and the incoming shift was busy getting coffee and going to the washroom to notice the error right away.
Pressed the wrong button. Cause if TV and Movies have taught the American people anything, the 4 trillion dollar a year military complex is completely operated by a simple set of buttons. /s
Out of curiosity, how far back do you want the decolonisation movement to go? Are Britain going to have to reinstate Cornwall as an independent nation? Do we need to split China back into the Pre-Qin kingdoms?
For that matter, wasn’t Hawai’i originally a bunch of separate island nations rather than a single unified archipelago? Are you going to demand that the nation be split up again to ensure no-one’s being governed by someone who conquered their ancestors?
What point in history do you choose to say "This bit was fine and we can ignore all the conquering that happened before this date?
Since I posted my comment I have received word that someone very dear to me is dying, so I don’t have the heart to walk this well-worn rhetorical path again. I’m sure that your curiosity can easily be satisfied elsewhere online, by someone more knowledgable and eloquent than I.
Which is kind of funny since the US was completely blindsided by the move. [Which is what happens when you gut the State Department and fail to appoint an ambassador to South Korea even after a year in office]
You seem to be reading “button” as a physical big red button somewhere. It’s much more likely to mean that someone clicked on the wrong button in an onscreen dialog box and then autopiloted through the “are you really really sure” pop-up like so many of us do.
As a programmer, I would not be in the least surprised to learn that a state-government-funded specialty application has an obtuse, error-prone interface.
EDIT: Confirmed here: The employee sent the alert by “picking the wrong option on his computer for a routine drill, and then confirming his choice”.
A warhead of any size is gonna have a radius of total devastation and a much larger radius of possible survival. Even if everyone within 5 miles of the epicenter is doomed no matter what, you can save thousands of lives by teaching people in suburbs and outlying areas to duck and cover.
While true in a direct sense, indirectly, I would be surprised if this series of events had taken place without the constant back-and-forth between Trump and Kim. You know, if a sane grownup was in the White House.
