The only man to never have seen a woman

Just to make it abundantly clear - Mister44’s comment is all about male incompetence, not female competence.

Or, as the meme goes: “Squirrel!”

(Personally I’m not fond of male = distractable terrier meme, but it’s in the zeitgeist.)

Probably cute monks.

Oh, I understood that. It’s also about how men can’t keep it in their pants. I just don’t think I’m down with that notion, either. Men are perfectly capable of being around women and not being distracted, as we all know… I guess I’m just ready for these tired old stereotypes to die out!

I will note the article doesn’t say he never saw a picture of a woman, or watched a movie with women so I think we may be imagining he was more uninformed than we might expect.

In addition, I find it hard to believe this has never happened in monasteries before just by chance over the centuries.

He’d probably have a very difficult time avoiding pictures of women for 82 years in a Greek monastery.

For some reason I suspect getting fired up over the virgin Mary is frowned on in most monasteries. Not that it stopped the teenage monks, at all.

I contend that at certain ages, that isn’t true. They just hide it well.

TBH, I have heard the same from some women about being around certain guys, and I’ve found it perfectly possible to work effectively with women I find attractive, including during my teens and early 20s (there seem to be plenty of complaints about older middle aged guys too, but I guess that’s the age you’re referring to). I do think at least some of this is a cultural narrative rather than just a difference between the sexes, although I’ll definitely admit that it’s more than just cultural too.

Unrelated question, have you ever seen the subbed, Non-Robotech version of the Macross series?

The story is pretty much unchanged from the original, but the Minmay songs are much goofier in tone. They were supposed to be ridiculous bubble gum pop with a side order of propaganda.

No, and I haven’t even seen all of the regular Robotech series. I got into the comic books back when Anime and Manga were both hard to find (at least in my area.) So I got a lot of the back issues from the old Comico series, and then the new comics (at the time) from Eternity which were things like Robotech II, The Malcontent Uprisings, and various books with the Invid. I still have almost a full long box full of Robotech comics. The veritech fighter is STILL one of the best mech designs of all time.

And even if you don’t have statues and icons, some monks get fully corporeal visions of women.

My comic book collecting days ended around the same time my interest in anime started. I had seen Robotech as a kid and loved it. (It was the only cartoon besides Johnny Quest where people got killed!) I didn’t revisit it until I had a college roommate with the entire series on VHS. Me and 4 other roommates (2 of whom had never seen it before) would watch with rapt attention.

I managed to find the subbed versions of all the regular series. The second series, Southern Cross was greatly improved when they changed it for the American market. The original was pretty bad. But the first one, Macross is still the best. But then again I am also a sucker for wartime narratives. Especially when it comes to pilots (Dawn Patrol, 12 O’Clock High…)

My favorite Comic series, and I never did get the whole series, was the Malcontent Uprising, as it had a grittier fair, and way more battles and pilot action. I learned how to draw an F-15/Veritech fighter coming straight at you firing missiles from those books (its pretty easy compared to other angles/views.)
