Ok, since we’re taking a tangent away from the op-
People with your mindset have normalized mass surveillance in the first place by governments, and now are even more okay with it because everyone has the same ability.
I wasn’t arguing against filming bullshit like this, I was arguing that the proliferation of surveillance devices everywhere has destroyed the concept of privacy.
I guess I can’t blame you since the focus on surveillance from this place is lost since Cory left and apparently you haven’t read any of his books or if you have the lesson was lost on you.
I don’t understand why so many people enjoy championing the loss of privacy, is it because you see no value in it? Did anything that Edward Snowden reveal have new meaning to you?
Man the crowd here has really changed. I want to see scumbags like this shown for what they are too, but if we miss the point of a surveillance society we’ve missed a lot more than ruining one assholes career
Just one more, in case you haven’t already seen - https://wamu.org/show/the-big-broadcast/
Every Sunday 7 - 11 PM Eastern you can listen live, or check later for the recording for up to a week. 4 hours of OTR with some great classics: Our Miss Brooks, The Mysterious Traveler, Gunsmoke, The Whistler, etc. And they do special holiday editions.
ETA - the difference btwn this and the archives of shows is that the host lays out interesting historical context and little facts about the creators and actors.
I did. It returned a hilarious mix of photos of people doing yoga with goats (as you’d expect) and ads for an oat-based yogurt product. “Yog-oat.” Who knew?
ETA: and some pics of goats in tutus under the name “Yo, goat.” Sometimes I seriously love the internet.
(And I feel like the developing was even more than the film…Wasn’t there a movie in which the kid got a camera and a bunch of rolls of film, and exposed them all in a couple days? I remember that the father was not happy.)
I was in classified school with a woman named Penny Cash. She had that “Yes, I’ve heard it all before” look on her face, so I didn’t ask her about Johnny or the names of her family members.
Yesterday, I called a place that sells windows, because I need two now (and more later) for the house we’re remodeling. I got assigned to a random salesperson.
tl;dr: he was great on the phone. He was willing to answer a lot of “educate me” questions (although it didn’t take much time because I’d done homework). He even put up with my brief stories about our weird remodeling project. He asserted that he had put these same windows into his place because he, too, wanted to create an AirBNB (I know enough to doubt that, but it was smart of him to say). Not AT ALL pushy (which I am extremely sensitive to), which some are even when approached by a prospect with an actual need. No upselling.
Best of all, he had a quote to me in email in minutes.
Next, we find out if his company gives similarly good service in fulfilling the sale.
“They didn’t come to your house & try to wear you down for 2 hours?”
I know! That’s why I posted about it. Perhaps my cleverness paid off – I searched for a company that seems to only sell the products and not do installation.
Also… no one tries to wear us down for two hours. Before it gets to that point, we’ve kicked them out. I can do a good impersonation of an imperious schoolmarm, and I’m willing to threaten them with cops. I’ve turned on my heel and walked out of at least three doctor’s offices and many more stores.
