Theocratic fascist Matt Walsh says anime is "satanic" because it "just seems that way to me"

Then again 68.3% of all studies used to make a point in discussions on the internet are made up on the spot.

I can’t wait to see his citations.

I don’t get why anyone is concerned about that, when they’re already in danger of glarfing the naddletwackers. Being interested in some type of media I know nothing about increases your chance of being naddletwacker glarfed by a eternal reagent by 92.99112%! This is 5.99112% higher than some other made up value and therefore is scarier. Panic now to avoid the rush. Glarf! Naddletwackers! AUGH!!!

They missed “revenant”.

Nope. Jesus didn’t eat a bear.

True, though the Bible is silent on how many of the disciples were bears, and Jesus did seem more interested in Mary Magdalene.

Funny, because I think Matt Walsh is Satanic, and I do have an argument for it. And that argument is: [points to everything Matt Walsh has ever said].

Of course that guy would say that. Essentially, if it’s not white cishet Christian American, it’s of the devil. And there don’t ever seem to be consequences for what he says and does. Fortunately this is just stupid. I am curious about what cartoons are fine for adults, though.

He says anime is all satanic, but my experience with anime began with the Bible adventure series called Superbook. I kind of wish I could be as unaware of it as he is.

ETA: the word Christian. Because his bigotry if course includes religion.

In their world, they operate on “seems”. Nothing more is needed.

Only if they’re the right kind of Christian.

I’m fairly sure Walsh and others of his ilk define the wrong kind of Christian as those who try to love their neighbors, and do something to feed the hungry, care for the sick, help the poor, shelter the homeless and the refugees, and all sorts of similar namby-pamby socialist nonsense as taught by that infamous Jewish leftist rabble-rouser, Jesus of Nazareth.

Given how many right wing nutjob incels are well into their anime (4chan was cloned from Japanese anime boards), I think this Walsh bloke might have missed his target audience.

Also, if adults shouldn’t watch cartoons, does that means he averts his eyes if he’s ever (eg) shown an animated safety cartoon on an airline?

My take is this is their attempt to make Christianity appealing to teh kidz. Evangelical churches are (and have been) hemorrhaging youth for decades, and their solution is to try making Christianity “cool” by dressing cool, introducing poppy music to services, and trying to add a veneer of hipness to their churches.

The problem is, Jesus isn’t cool. Or rather, their Jesus isn’t cool.

Biblical Jesus is metal: he hangs with badasses (Levi/Matthew) and isn’t afraid to interact with the “bad kids” (Samaritans, Romans), he makes fools of hypocritical leaders, he goes bronze-age on those desecrating the temple, he loves a party and brings the good stuff! (water to wine)

Biblical Jesus is the best friend you want: accepts you as you are, forgives you when you mess up, and asks you to try to be a better person. Their Jesus is the mean racist uncle nobody wants to see at thanksgiving and can’t wait to never see again as soon as they turn 18.

They’ve been trying to make Jesus more appealing for decades, without looking at the true problem, which is that their flavor of Christianity is antithetical to the words and actions of the actual Christ.

You forgot Judas the Zealot (Not the same person as Judas Iscariot!) and Simon the Zealot, who were political activists fighting to free Judea from Roman rule before they became disciples.

I was just thinking. Isn’t this guy trolling us all? I mean, does he really believe that bullshit? Now I think he’s just doing a good old scandal scheme to generate media engagement.

Ultimately, I’m not sure if it matters much whether Walsh and others of his sort believe what they are saying, or not. I do note, however, that people pushing lies and conspiracy theories often tend to start believing their own bullshit, even if they started off knowing better.

His responses to people calling him out on the anime thing are definitely trolling.
