I figured he was hired because they needed him to end the sanctions over the Crimea/Russia/Exxon oil deal but now that the investigation about collusion is underway, that little bit of money making has been taken off the table.

Nice link! Tangential, but why isn’t this required reading in high school civics class? Do they still have civics class?

No and not really (at least as of 2011 when I’d graduated). The gutting of education has been thorough.
Edit: Actually yes I guess we were sort of taught about sources and the importance of primary sources, but they did a really, really bad job of explaining why it was important and instead framed it as only a tool for arbitrarily judging bibliographies in papers.
