There was never a time when GAS was so easily accessible for even adults. And certainly not for kids for whom care is relatively newer and much less accessible. I’ve never heard of surgery for a 13 year old and doubt very much that there’s ever been such a case.
These people think that accessing care is like pulling up to a drive through window and ordering it with some fries. Meanwhile in the real world there’s people having to fight for decades for access- as some people here have attested for themselves.
No argument there. I feel that if it even happened, it was an extremely rare (and possibly experimental) case.
ETA: I mean, not too long ago, we were allowing Walter Freeman to just poke kids behind the orbital socket with an ice pick, all in the name of science.
And meanwhile, a friend of mine had to fight her surgeon in order to not receive implants post mastectomy. He was going to add them by default. [crazy pills]
That’s one thing I appreciated when I was diagnosed. They mentioned the possibility of reconstruction once, I let them know that I needed to hit the cancer hard because I had young children to raise, so nothing that would take more time or invoke more risk was worth doing at the time, and they never tried to sell me on it after that.
Apparently some birds have taken to including discarded cigarette butts in their nests as an insecticide, in cases where the babies are at high risk of dying from parasites.
The thing that gets me is that anyone who lives in America (unless they are incredibly wealthy, etc) knows how much of a struggle doing ANYTHING in the health care system is. They know it’s stupid, bureaucratic, opaque, and nearly impossible to navigate - and that’s on just run of the mill stuff! Yet they think that trans kids are just going out and getting top surgery on a whim! How the hell do they square that in their minds?
Oh yeah… I know - they’re bigots looking for an excuse to freak out about trans people!
